Still swaddling?

My baby is a month old and I still swaddle her before we go to bed. I've tried leaving her unswaddled, but she has a lot of trouble settling down to sleep that way. Plus she's such a wiggler that it keeps me awake.

Anyone else still swaddling? How old is "too old" to swaddle?

Yep we are still swaddling and Samuel is almost 7 weeks old. I often swaddle till somewhere between 3-4 months of age.. and usually only stop because I can't find a blanket big enough to keep them swaddled anymore LOL!

I know some people swaddle till around 7 months old.... there is NO reason not to swaddle if it calms your baby and helps them sleep.

We still swaddle also. But, we leave her arms out because it really makes her mad if they're under anything. She screams if her hands are bound!

Yep! Calli is the exact same way. She will scream her head off if her hands are under the blanket.

ITA!
We stopped swaddling around 3 weeks. The boob is the magic bullet for soothing Calla, so swaddling just wasn't needed. I would/will try it again if needed tho.

We love our miracle blanket! It's a huge part of his bedtime routine and I think it will be for some time.

I have swaddled all of mine until 3 months and then just wrap their lower body. If you are having trouble finding big enough blankets go get some flannel cut at a fabric store, I just ask them to cut it square. Then I hem the cut edges. I swaddle them by folding down one corner and putting their head in the middle of that and wrapping the corners in. It is the perfect size for bigger babies!

We still swaddle at night, too. Iris always manages to get her hands out though. She definately associates swaddling with settling down and getting ready for sleep.

With Petri I swaddled until he was 6 months old. He had a very hard time falling asleep otherwise. Thierry on the other hand, HATES being swaddled so I did it for the first week he was home (his 5th week pp) and haven't since. It all depends on the babe IMO

I swaddled dd1 until she was 7 months old. She got so distracted and overtired if her arms/hands were left out to their own devices. I will swaddle Hazel until she doesn't "need" it anymore. I have a HUGE swaddling blanket and want some of those Halo sleepsacks with the swaddle blanket attached. IMO, they're never too old to swaddle if it benefits them.

We are still swaddling. My first hated having her arms swaddled as well, but now I'm wondering if it was just the swaddle I was using. Lilith doesn't like having her arms swaddled down inside (like a straight jacket), instead, I swaddle by folding down the corner of the square, putting her in the middle of that fold, then slipping her hands under the fold, and then swaddling. Her hands end up under the blanket, but by her face. She loves it. I also have to say, the muslin wraps we use have been critical to swaddle success this time around. Having her hands near her facemakes her happy, but being in the wrap keeps them warm.

Galen is still swaddled at 4 weeks; I also love the miracle blanket. I swaddled DS2 for a few months. DS1 was swaddled for over a year (at bedtime). I used a huge blanket to swaddle him lol. He really seemed to need it though. He still likes to wrap himself into blankets. I didnt' know about swaddling with DD though I wish I had!

Galen goes to sleep much more peacefully at night swaddled.

I haven't swaddle Ainsley since she was a week old, she doesn't like it at all, especially having her arms stuck (she just wiggles until she loosens herself or cries). My ds was the same way. When she's sleeping in her cradle I tuck a couple of blankets around her body tightly, and have a rolled up receiving blanket next to her to give her the feeling of someone/thing being there, that's the only way she'll sleep without me unless she's in her swing, which only works during the day.

Yep, we're still swaddling at 9 weeks. It helps calm Carolyn down and get her ready for bed.

Jumping in from the May 2009 DDC:
I looked up the Halo sleep sack with the swaddle attachement; it looks like they're only available in XS? Is that right?

I swaddle as needed....sometimes he does great without it and sometimes not...just depends on how tired or cranky he is.
