My tailbone sounds and feels broken already! It pops each time I take a step. Doesn't hurt that bad, though. Just loud and "poppy."

In my doula training we learned that it's more likely to happen if you're flat on your back on a bed, because there's no room for the tailbone to move back out of the way. I think it's pretty rare in the world of natural childbirth where you're likely birthing in a more forgiving position.

I do know people who've had their tailbones popped out of alignment during birth, instead of gently moving back, it moves back too far and gets stuck that way, which causes intense pain when sitting. According to my chiro, it's important that it gets fixed during the early postpartum times, because once the relaxin is out of your system it can be very hard to realign.

I wonder how many women with "broken" tailbones actually had flipped back ones that could have been fixed? Seems possible.

My tailbone hurt for years after DD was born. I have heard of many women who actually hear a crack. And I have never heard of it happening when squatting, kneeling or on all fours because your back can arch and the poor tailbone can get out of the way.
