Which part are you having a hard time with??

Work ribbing, knit til hat measures 5"

next row- K11, place marker, continue k11 and placing marker til end of round
knit next round
knit to 2 stitches before marker, knit 2 stitches together. repeat til end of round
knit next round
repeat the decrease round and the knitting round a total of 6 times ending with a decrease round, you should have 32 stitches

Don't do the purl decrease round, knit to 2 stitches before marker, k2tog, repeat to end
Repeat 3 times total, you shouldhave 8 stitches
K2tog 4 times leaving 4 stitches on the needle. Thread hole closed.

i think what i didnt get is to knit a reg round in between the rows where you are supposed to knit 2 together before the makers. so my decrease was faster and my hat is smaller and looks like a swirl at the top. i still dont see by reading the pattern where it said that.

oh well, i have a kiddie hat

Well the "in the round" pattern has you following the flat pattern except that the even rounds are knit (it says in the italicized note under the "hat-in-the-round subtitle.

So, since the decrease rounds are odd rounds, then you knit the even rounds of the pattern in between the decrease rounds.

I know! Sometimes it's like decoding a secret message. If I keep rereading and rereading, it usually starts to make sense, but sometimes I start knitting and then have to rip it out anyway when I realize what they are *really* saying

Maybe you can find a kid who needs a hat?
