What is this novel?

I'm looking for a certain novel. As far as I can remember, it is set in California; where this (celebrity?) couple has family visiting for the holidays, and it turns into a series of stories loosely based on the Canterbury Tales.

I heard a review on NPR last year as I was preparing Christmas dinner, and I foolishly didn't write down the info. Anybody know what this book is?

Yes, it's Ten Days in the Hills by Jane Smiley. It's based on The Decameron, though.
