As soon as we figure out how to get them here, we're updating the kids' rooms with those with the desk attachment and futons for their new 'teen' rooms when we get rid of the loft beds.

Obviously you are not an artist who needs to organize her art supplies.

It seems you are saying that people who enjoy or make a living via artistic pursuits are not following certain 'rules' of simple living and/or frugality.

Jeesh! Sorry, but when I look at the link in the OP, I see a GIFT WRAPPING STATION. If someone likes to do arts and crafts or whatever, and wants to use it for that, good for them. If it was loaded with art supplies, paint and other objects, it would look like a totally different thing to me.

doodlebugsmom, you're taking a bit of grief here! I hear the point you're trying to make.. "simplifying" can be a very different concept from "organizing".. I used to be obsessed with organizing everything and buying neat containers for everything, then I realized that by simplifying my life and home a bit more, I no longer have the need to organize, because there's not much stuff left, and what is left can fit nicely in my home without extra props and space-saving containers. Nothing wrong with organizing stuff that you actually use a lot and love though... if you've got a hobby or profession that requires supplies, then do what you gotta do to make them useful!
That said, wanna know what my gift-wrapping station consists of? A roll of brown all-purpose packaging paper, scissors, and tape! Then Ds and I take a handful of crayons and markers to personalize it.

OMGosh! Noooooooooo! Not a gift wrapping station! That would be a place for all the paper, tape, pencils, and other art supplies.

"If I don't need it, nobody else does. If I think it's a waste, it must be", yes?

Really, some people might find using a art station helpful as a wrapping station as, just maybe. lol

I hold the OP totally responsible for me spending way to much time in Michaels (can't afford PB) and examining their version of the gift wrap station (or scrapbook/art supply station as it would be to me) and trying to decide if I really really must have it. I am so loving my storage cubes but have given up on the tall glass vase as in reality that would be asking for disaster with my boys.

I sent him the link to the pottery barn one right after I read this thread and said THIS is the craft desk I want. He's been planning on building me one for awhile and we have talked about different ones for a long time. But it was a total surprise. I had no idea he was going to build me it for Xmas. It's just like the Pottery barn one. Now I have to decide how to paint it and how to organize on it. I'm so happy and excited!!! I have a VERY good husband.

WOW! i LOVE that! what a wonderful surprise! i already posted my studio space on this thread......and my hubby built that for me.

I like looking at the Pottery Barn catalog because it gives me ideas. Then I go find other resources for implementing those ideas. Like takebirthback's husband obviously did -- great gift!
