Looks Like They Work (TMI)

My nipples have been sore the past week (almost like they had abrasions), and they've started to crust over. Tonight I cleaned a little of it off, and they leaked a bunch of clear stuff. Would that be colostrum?

Is there anything I can do to keep them clean and not so sore when I wear bras (they are okay w/out bras)?

The subject line made me laugh out loud!

Don't wash them with soap -- that will dry them out. You want them to stay moisturized, and most of the time the glands will release additional oils for that reason. If you need extra moisturizer, get some lanolin (BFing section).

Wearing a bra or not shouldn't affect anything I don't think, but I don't know. I don't wear a bra everyday and mine are okay. They get a little peely at times but nothing to fret over. But everyone is different, obviously. If you're worried about leakage, you can try some nursing pads. Medela makes some great ones.

While I am currently using LilyPadz (silicon nursing pads), I would not recommend them for constant wear if you have sensitive and/or peeling nipples. The LPs stick right next to the skin. But they work great for constant at-attention nipples.

Get thee some Lansinoh! It is pretty thick salve-like stuff made for sore nursing mama nipples. Great stuff.

Mine are leaking too ... my midwife suggested rubbing the colostrum right back into the nipple. She also said it's great for sores or hang nails too, go figure. I don't wear a bra, and so far, so good. Mine usually leak in the shower or bath.

Funny you mentioned this. Mine got crusty right after I went swimming.
