Surprise!Our 2nd son was born 12/27/2008 (due 1/20/2009).
Phineas Aaron (we call him Finn)
6 pounds, 15 ounces
19 and 1/2 inches
I never had any odd blood pressure readings and was fine at my last prenatal visit on 12/15. Then Christmas Eve, I was running around delivering gifts for the charity I work for and realized I had super swollen feet and hands which were painful. I talked to my midwife and because neither of us expected it to be a BP issue, we agreed I would just rest all day Christmas. I was in serious pain that night and unable to urinate much at all (even though I was drinking a lot). I went to see her the morning of the 26th and my husband and I went right from the parking lot at her office to the hospital birth center. My BP readings were very, very high all that day and I was developing a headache and since I was 36 weeks, we all agreed that delivering the baby was the best thing to address the pre-eclampsia. We had planned a VBAC but in the physical state I was, I felt a c-section made more sense than an induction. So Finn was born the following morning...as far as c-sections go this was amazing, with my midwife assisting and the whole medical staff being supportive, respectful and kind. Finn was by my head within minutes of birth and skin to skin at my breast within minutes of me being wheeled back to my room (with me holding Finn from the OR to the room). We skipped giving him a bath and he stayed with us the whole time we were at the hospital, did not need the NICU. Nursing is going really well this time around so far and my milk came in full force Monday night. A little surprised still, but doing well.
