what does your 2.5-3 yo nap?

Mine sleeps from 12-2 every day, but he is up until 9:45 and it seems like it takes forever to get him to fall asleep. I just lay there and lay there and lay there, feeling soooo annoyed.

So, what times does your child nap and what time does he usually go to bed at night? Thanks!

ds gave up napping for good around 2.5, and bedtime is now a DREAM!! He's asleep in 10 mins (sometimes less), rather than the hour+ it sometimes took when he was napping.

DS will be 3 in a couple of weeks. These days he usually doesn't nap unless he falls asleep in the car. If he doesn't nap, he's ready to fall asleep around 8 or so. If he sleeps in the car at some point, he'll generally stay up later - how much later depends on how long he sleeps. Sometimes he just can't make it through the day without a nap, and he falls asleep even if we're not in the car, but that tends to happen around 5 PM, and as you can imagine, it means he ends up going to bed for the night really late - maybe not until 11. We try to avoid that.

When my son was 2.5, I got really annoyed with how long it was taking him to fall asleep at nap and especially night time. I mentioned one day to my husband that maybe I needed to stop having him take a nap every day. Well, my son heard that and completely latched on to the idea that maybe naps weren't required after all! From that day forward, he refused to take a nap and would only nap if he fell asleep in the car or stroller. It took about a month for his body to adjust to the new sleeping schedule. There were many evenings during that first month that he drove me crazy all afternoon with his crankiness and then fell asleep at the dinner table! However, bedtime was sooooo much easier after that. Instead of staying awake until 9:30 or 10:00 p.m., he went to sleep by 7:30 p.m. and slept for 11-12 hours.

My dd just turned 3. She usually naps from around 1-3 or 2-4 and goes to bed around 9:30. On the days when she doesn't nap, she gets SO overtired, cranky, clingy by 4pm-- it's really hard on both of us. She still needs the rest, I still need the break, and she and dh still need to see eachother after work/dinner-- so I'm hoping to keep the nap as long as we can!

Mine naps about 2-4 and goes to bed at 10ish. If he misses or has his nap cut short he gets crazy and cranky and falls asleep before 9.

No naps around here either and we're just hitting 2.5. If she napped she wouldn't go to bed until 10 or 11 and she'd still wake up around 6. I need more sleep than that! So I cut out the nap and now she's in bed around 7 or 7:30.

DS dropped the nap around 2yo. It was just too much trouble/time trying to get him to nap! He was tired in the evening for a while (fell asleep at 5:45 for the night a few times) but then adjusted. Bedtime became much easier!!

we have dropped the nap too. My ds1 drives me CRAZY trying to get him to take a nap and then even more crazy to get him to go to sleep at night. No nap means he goes to sleep willingly around 7 or 7:30. THEN I get some time to myself. The only thing that sucks is dh doesnt get to spend as much time with him, but he is usually home by 4:30 so he does the bath and then we all have dinner together.

Just last week ds was napping from 1:30-2:30 everyday. He had never skipped naps in his life. He goes to bed late too, around 9:30/10pm and it often takes an hour for him to fall asleep, which is sooo annoying when your laying there waiting.
Every once in a while he'd nap for 10 minutes and after 4pm, would be awful for him and me. Getting dinner cooked was such a struggle. And I'd end up getting him into bed for an early bedtime, only to have him wake up an hour later, ready to play after his 'nap'

But in the last 4 days, ds has decided he doesn't want to nap. And it's actually been a really easy transition. We lay down in his bed for 'quiet time', which is sometimes nursing, but usually just reading books for an hour. I ask him if he's tired and wants to nap, or does he want to get up. He's lately been picking to get up.
He hasn't been cranky at all which is quite surprising.

I make a HUGE effort to keep him well fed, so that might be why he's been in such a great mood after not napping.
The 'quiet time' also seems good in keeping him feeling good and well rested.

So now putting him to bed at night is a dream
He goes to bed aroun 8:30, it takes him 5 minutes to fall asleep, and he sleeps a lot deeper.

I'd ask your dc each day if they wish to nap or not...see how it goes

DS1 usually sleeps from 12-2 or 1-3 and is asleep for the night by about 8:30-9pm. He wakes up at about 6:30am to start the day.

DD stopped napping by age 2.5 (unless she's really sick or something) so she goes to bed between 9 pm and 10 pm and sleeps to between 8 and 10 am. I can't stand early bedtimes or early wake times. Bedtime is so much easier now without naps--plus it keeps our day from being broken in half, which is nice. I hate naps.

Mine slept about 12:30-2:00 for nap, then 8:00 pm 'til 6:00 am for night time (went to bed to read at 7:30 or so).

He always napped more successfully if he had a good night's sleep and vice versa.

another no-napper here. it was too much of a struggle to get dd, then 2.5 down for a nap, so i just stopped. it took a while to adjust (but she's always had sleep issues). now, at 3, she falls asleep very quickly and sleeps between 11-12 hrs at night. she's even begun to put herself to sleep, something i never thought would happen, and she's fine with it. actually, that's when she started falling asleep much more quickly (like in 10 minutes).
