It sounds like there are tons of new dolls being born/made this holiday season! Let's try starting up a new thread for pictures!

I just finished this special big brother present for a lovely two year old boy (it took a few late nights because the new baby came a little sooner than anticipated!!):

Both of your have SUCH cute dolls by the way.

Any advice for a newbie on how to put in each piece of hair? I have a yarn blend and I'm wondering if there is a good system on how to latch in each piece. Do you do a pattern with it, or just randomly put them in, go in rows...or what?

Oh! and I forgot to say the best part. DD is going to be sooo spoiled this Christmas. My mom is making all the clothes for the doll and guess who gets a matching outfit for each one? DD!

She is doing a holiday dress with a red cape and one for Milena.
A fairy costume and one for Milena.
A Dorothy costume for the doll (Milena was dorothy for halloween so she already has that....also handmade from Grandma).

I think she is doing some other dresses as well.

I will DEFINETLY put up pics of the matching girl and her doll. She had me measuring Milena's arm span for some kind of super awesome wings she's making her for the fairy costume. they somehow hook over her fingers so she can flap them. They are going to be similar to the playsilk kind of wings i think.

I am sooo excited to see all these clothes. I feel more excited than she will be probably. We have the best grandma EVER!

Good grandma! Can't wait to see the photos ( and to be a grandma, myself! )

As for hooking in yarns, I'm no help as I don't make my wigs this way. I crochet the yarn strands directly into the wig- I don't make a cap first.

I do use a cap when I make a pate/strand style wig- where you wrap the yarn and sew down the middle. I use a cap for this to keep bald spots from showing through the pate.

Beth: SUPER CUTE face! She's going to be awesome!

I'm still getting a system down for hooking in the hair. I start with doing all the way around the outside (to cover up the edge and any stitching). Then kind of fill in. The first time I was super methodical and was doing rows...it ended up with a LOOOOOT of hair! Now I kind of divy it up into sections and fill in a section at a time. Not totally random, but I like small accomplishments to keep me going. Hooking hair is not my favorite part! That's why I like the curly yarn...just knit the cap and you're done! But this little boy needed straight hair.

Adorable guy! Love his knit sweater. Question: How do you make a smile like that? When I do a single stitch smile mine always look like they are scowling.

Hmmm. That sounds like what I've tried, but mine don't look like that! How does the single stroke acheive the nice, gentle arc of the smile? Does it just naturally make that shape, or does it matter how/where you insert the needle from the back? When I have done it, the "smile" is just a straight line. If I pull more taughtly, I get some better cheek definition, but still no arc to the smile. I'll try again.
