What toy does your 5/6 yo boy love? - Page 2

My 5.5 year old doesn't really play with any of the types of toys he played with when he was 3 and 4. At those ages, he was REALLY into construction vehicles and play dough but he is not into either of those any more. He has never shown any interest in spiderman, star wars, batman, or other characters / themes like that. He also has never liked playing with cars. He seems to be starting to show an interest in Legos but since we don't have many I can't really tell for sure. We're definitely going to be getting some Legos and K'nex for him this year. Other than more books and a few new games I really don't have many more ideas for him. This seems like a hard age to buy toys for. He mostly just plays with random objects, role plays, or runs laps around the house. He does play with his collection of noisemakers and musical instruments fairly often. A lot of those are clearance stuff from New Years though.

I've been wondering too what 5 yr olds like. My ds will turn 5 next week and he's still quite happy with the same things he liked at 3 and 4 (mostly cars & trains) but he is just starting to get really into making art projects. Funny how so many boys seem to get into legos, I guess we'll keep an eye out for sales on those!, my ds hasn't had any interest at all in legos yet, but maybe someday...
We are also starting to play more board games.

oh, also - my 5 yr old likes to take apart electronics like a cordless phone i gave him.

Anything they can take apart and put back together. Lego's, etc!

My son is turning 6 and wants a pocket knife, video games (wants a DS but we are going to get him a Wii instead), a rip stick, a new bike (his 16" is pretty much demolished after 2.5 years of riding it), a guitar, Legos (we don't have any yet, it will be a lifting of our ban on plastic toys), more Tinker Toys, new fish, Tech Decks, anything relating to the capture and keeping of bugs.

oh yeah, that's how all of my children have been, even my daughter but my oldest son was always fascinated by bugs and critters (still is).

My boy is now 8 but at 5/6 he was justing getting into Lego. He is now a Lego building "master" and will play with it for hours on end (when he isn't kicking a soccer ball).
