Child attending School in Utah

First post here. We live in Canada. My 15 year old is attending a school in Utah, they say I must provide vaccination info within 72 hours (and that was 48 hours ago) or she will be vaccinated. We have selectively vaxed. What are my rights? I particularily don't want her given Guardasil.

Thanks

Tell them that they are NOT to vaccinate your child, it's against your religion. Tell them you WILL be sending/faxing an exemption. Here's the exemption.

thanks for that....it's a private school, so can they make her? I noted there was "personal exemption" too as well as medical exemption.

Private schools can deny exemptions if they don't receive any state/federal funding. You NEED to find out ASAP if they accept exemptions ... if they don't you need to get your daughter the hell out of there now.

Im not sure about private schools. I would think that they need to adhere to state law as well if they are a licensed facility.

Utah offers philosophical (personal), religious, and medical exemption - which means that you can selectively pick and choose if you do some vaccinations.

Thanks for all your responses. I called the school nurse and she hasn't gotten back to me yet. I'm now back in Canada, but when I met with her two days ago, I just nodded and said I'd supply the stuff later. I could tell by the way she was going with the discussion that she wasn't on the same page I was with it. I have done some of the vaccines, but there's a few I won't do. And I do truly resent having to supply the information at all.

I'm not sure if the school gets any state funding, I think it does, and I think they are following state rules about this. So, I'll check on that too.

Where in UT? I am there as well..

Let us know how it goes.

They can't vaccinate without your consent!!! Private school or not... and if you have a school nurse who is gung ho... I would be reminding her of your parental rights, and vaccination rights. Those laws and exemptions are there for this very reason! I would find out if they take any funding... very first thing!

medical exemption is impossible to get. You'd have to get it for each vax you don't want and most doctors will only do it if the child has a documented allergy to that particular vax.

Is this a boarding school? They may be able to vax her if you signed anything giving them the right to act as parents while you are gone.

I would think that even with something signed with the school... The parent spec. Saying no would still over ride! I am in salt lake city ut... If you want a voice there in person, not sure what that would do, or how it would help. But the offer is there. Let us know how it all goes!

Here's another link that might help: http://www.immunize-utah.org/public/...exemptions.htm. I think the Personal Exemption is probably the easiest to get, but you'll have to figure out how you can handle getting the form and having it appropriately witnessed. Good luck.

Wow. You guys are awesome. The school is in Provo. Still awaiting a call from the nurse.

Provo is close let me know if you want me to make a visit. Have a lawyer contact the school if you think they will go over your head! That is what I would personally do, I don't think it costs much. I know you can call a law firm and ask what steps to take, and it costs nothing.

I don't know that I would wait on her to call! I would call again today... They may take your not getting in touch with them again as a go ahead.

Well, just to let you all know, the nurse emailed me saying that she got my immunization records for my daughter (which are incomplete, because we have selectively and delayed vax) and all I need to do is provide personal exemptions for the ones she hasn't got that are requried by Utah state. So I will do that. Whew. Never thought I'd have to be doing this.
