insurance blues

Ugh!! We submitted our insurance information to a midwife's billing company. They sent back the paper work telling us that our insurance paperwork says "no home birth allowed". They haven't submitted anything to the insurance yet. They will, for another $100.

Do you think that there is any chance a claim will go through????

We have blue cross ppo.

Have you looked at your insurance booklet and seen for yourself that it says "home birth not allowed". You could also check with your state's insurance commission and see if that is even legal in your state.

Hi
See the link below from the tribal areas section that covers this - it seems BCBS MA have recently become a lot stricter about not covering HB - their policy used to be that they would cover HB but only if it was with a CNM and not a CPM. CNMs aren't legally able to attend HB in MA so its a stupid policy.
Ask your midwives billing service what they think the chances are from their experience - I think sometimes they have ways of getting things covered.
If you don't get it covered I would write a letter to BCBS saying how unacceptable it is not to cover HB and also remember to support the midwifery bill in December.

You can also complain to the benefits person at the company that hires the insurance, though it may not help this bill.
