The second annual quidditch world cup was yesterday at Middlebury college in Vermont. And it really was international, as a college from Ontario competed this year.

That looks like so much fun! :nerdsmilie: If I had the guts I'd organize a game for when Family gets together for Thanksgiving dinner next week. But I don't have the time.

My niece plays for the Vassar team. I'm not an HP fan, so I have to admit I find it a little odd...

That's awesome! I had no idea that people actually found a way to play the game in real life. How strange would it be if a few years down the line JK Rowling had actually invented a professional sport?

That's totally cool.

Tell your niece she's the coolest cousin of a MDC forum member I've never met. :

And tell her better luck next year.

I will definitely pass that along to her. I think she has so much fun in those tournaments that it's not that big a deal if they don't win. She's pretty competitive in the first place, and the fact that she can just shrug her shoulders and say how great it was anyway is a pretty good deal.

I still don't understand EXACTLY how they play Quidditch, Muggle Style. I see them running around throwing a ball while holding broomsticks between their legs, but is there a snitch? I assume the goalposts are a bit closer to the ground?

Ruthla, the 'Snitch' is a guy dressed all in yellow with a tennis ball in a sock hanging over the waist band on the back of his shorts. The seekers chase the guy all over the field and try to pull the ball from his waist band.

And the goal posts seem to be lower to the ground than a standard basketball hoop.
