Midwife Michelle Wilbert???

Has anyone hired/interviewed/worked with midwife Michelle Wilbert out of Ferndale? I'm searching for a midwife in my area and they're really few and far between. They're almost all in Ann Arbor or farther. I'd rather not have to drive an hour or more for prenatal care. I haven't heard of Michelle before...PM's welcome!

I've read Michelle's blog but never met her. Her blog makes her seem very thoughtful and compassionate and sensitive.

Nine Short Months sees clients in Madison Heights, as well as in White Lake. Christa Bartley, who works with Nine Short Months, works with me too. She is absolutely fantastic -- super smart and really passionate about birth. And Wendy Pinter, the primary midwife at NSM is funny and smart too. Birth with the two of them would probably be a lot of fun.
Kate Mazzara lives about 45 minutes from Ferndale, but she does all home visits for her care. If I should ever be graced by another baby, Kate would be there for my birth, for sure. She and I have had a kind of informal partnership in the past and she is a great midwife too. Helen Stockton, who is in Ypsilanti, also does home visits for her care. I haven't done any births with her, but she seems really strong and dedicated to her clients. We've backed each other up, but our clients have waited for us.

You can find them all at michiganmidwives.org in the directory. Kate is listed in Central Michigan because she has an 810 area code.

Christa and Wendy are my absolute 1st choice! But they're taking the summer off. Are you taking the summer off, Stacia?

Unfortunately, Michelle Wilbert is no longer practicing. I've been in touch with her recently.

And Stacia, well, I her!

Oops. I didn't look at your due date when recommending Christa and Wendy. I'm going to be off for July and August too. I'm taking repeat clients with the backup help of other midwives, but I am hoping to go on a couple of long backpacking trips with my kids in the summer.

I didn't say congratulations. Congratulations! I hope you can find a midwife who is not a slacker like us

In the first round I recommended midwives who I've worked with or spent a reasonable amount of time with. There are lots of midwives in your area, though. You could try Linda Honey or Bridgett Ciupka or Adarsa Antares too. Adarsa is listed on the mma directory. You could pm courtenay_e for Linda's or Bridgett's contact info.

Good luck!

Oh ok - no wonder I couldn't find out more about her!

Well ladies, you're really going to make me work for this, huh? Interviews, research, blah blah blah. I was so excited to be able to be super lazy about finding a midwife!!!

How about Kate Mazzara? She would come to your home for all prenatals.

Also, Linda Johnson would probably come out to the area. Or you could try Mother's Touch Midwifery.

There is a huge range on how much the midwives charge too.

What about Goldie Parker? She lives in Sterling Heights I believe. We are using her for our birth next year.

I see that Kate Mazzara is mentioned. I just wanted to say that for the short time I saw her during my pregnancy, I loved her!!!

We ended up deciding that an unassisted birth was in our family's best interest, but if I were to have a midwife, it would be Kate!!

I actually misspoke. Michelle did take some time off attending births, but if you're interested in a homebirth, you can contact her.
Sorry about that!

Christa, a former client of Michelle's contacted me and said she was pregnant but and needed to find another midwife because Michelle posted on her blog that she was retiring. I used to have a link to the blog, but have misplaced it. I think it had something to do with the ACOG anti home birth paper.

Thanks,

Linda

I just wanted to say that Linda Johnson of Mother's Own Birth is fabulous. She does births at her birth center and homebirths. Unfortunately, I didn't get the birth I wanted with her (so many complications from polyhydramnios to a transverse lie presentation), but she is dependable, kind, organized, and compassionate. I went through hell with other providers before I found her. She is wonderful.

I've heard great things about Kate Mazzara also, BTW.
