did anyone else see this in Parents mag? Now they say that you should put your baby to sleep with a fan on in their room because it may significantly reduce the risk of SIDS. It's from new research published in Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine. The premise? Breathing in too much carbon dioxide instead of oxygen they say can cause SIDS so get that fan going to circulate air.
This is a good idea, circulate air go for it, but the other way to stimulate your child's expelling of carbon dioxide is by being next to them! Mckenna has said that in his/their research from what I remember. I think my baby apreciated being next to me instead of a fan. This is so ridiculous really, talk about missing the obvious...
The kicker is at the end of the update, " Follow other SIDS prevention tips as well: Put your baby on her back, avoid soft bedding, never smoke in her room, and don't share a bed."
I,of course, had to do my monthly toss of the mag across the room. I'm so glad I don't pay for the subscription. They have some helpful hints and it is good to see what mainstream parenting is doing, but it exasperates the hell out of me that they never seem to ever give a positive spin on co-sleeping (specifically bedsharing) thus never giving both sides to the issue--especially regarding folks research like Dr. McKenna.
Their website even has more info on co-sleeping that is not necessarily as dire
as the mag purports.
Will they ever get it?

If don't mind answering, I'm curious - did she accidently suffocate while your sister was sleeping? Or did she just pass away? Your post isn't clear.
