I want to buy the kids 'Annie' on dvd for Christmas, but have no idea which is the better movie - the 1982 version with Aileen Quinn or the 1999 one with Alicia Morton.
I vote original, but thats cause I grew up with it and after watching the new one on TV and seeing how DD1 was watching it I went out and bought the original. She loves it. Whether or not she loves it more or less than the other I dunno, but you can't beat the cast of the original.
I've seen them both and I really prefer the 1982 version. Albert Finney and Carol Burnett totally make the movie. My 4 y.o. son really likes the movie too. He loves "Hard Knock's Life" and "Tomorrow" and "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile". He's never seen the dangling-from-the-bridge scene because I think it's too intense for him, but the rest of the movie he's seen several times.
Another vote for the 82 version. This is DDs favourite movie and it is hilarious to see a 3 YO impersonate Miss Hannigan...Carol Burnett is awesome! It is really well done.
The 82 version like everyone says..because it'll always remind me of my dad (tho I know that means nothing to anyone else) and Carol Burnett is wonderful.
Now, the version from 99 is also very good. I cry every time I see it, especially when Annie finds Sandy.
awww...
DEFINITELY the original! Favorite movie of all time. I really need to get this for my kids, too.
It's one of my plans for 2009 - to get hold of all kinds of classic musicals, both dvd and sound track, for the kids. I"m really excited now. Dh ordered it. I think it will make a great Christmas night movie for us all.
