thrift shop SCORE!!!!

I went to the thrift shop today to look for a fondue set (the boys want to have a fondue party, LOL, and there way no way I was paying full price for it!!) I couldn't find one, but as I was walking back to the front of the store I spied a really familiar striping on a sweater. I went in to look closer, and it's a freaking Noro Silk Garden sweater. It's actually a Knitting Fever sample handknit, with the label still on and everything.

So, of course, I buy it. $8.96 - and the thing weighs OVER a pound. WOOOO HOOO! It's well over $40 worth of noro.

So nice! I actually scored at a garage sale lately. The ad said yarn but I told my friend that I was sure it was all going to be acrylic. I was totally wrong. It was a knitter moving into an RV and getting rid of half of her stash. It was all beautiful, expensive wool for 1-3 dollars!

Excellent observational skills I wish I found stuff like that.

Oh wow, how fun! I never stumble on amazing finds like that!

I was at a local thrift store a while back and found an entire box of skeins of various wool yarns for TEN CENTS EACH. I kid you not. Great yarn in beautiful neutral shades that I love. Just sitting there in a big cardboard box next to some overripe watermelons that they were handing out for free. I brought home a garbage bag full of nice wool yarns for something like two dollars. Now and then I feel like the people working at the thrift store don't really know the value of what they're looking at, so they just make a number up. Which also explains why they sometimes have worn-out used stuff for higher prices than brand new.

Yahoo! That sounds so exciting!! What a find.

Great score! All I ever find at the thrift shop is Red Heart! But we do have a LYS going out of business--everything is 50% off right now, and it's rumored that it will go to 75% after Thanksgiving, since they're closing mid-december. It that's true, 'll be acquiring some lovely stuff CHEAP!

That's awesome!

I once went to a "crafter's paradise" yard sale and there was supposed to be tons of yarn. Well, there was, but it was all acrylic and novelty yarns. I was really hoping for cheap wool!

That's sad about a LYS going out of business But that's happy for you and good deals!
There was a yarn store in the town where we went on vacation for the first time this past summer. I had been so excited to go on vacation, partly so I could shop at this yarn store in walking distance. Then we get there and I learned it was going out of business. It had 3 (THREE) skeins of yarn left. I bought two of them.
I also got a ton, maybe a dozen?, pairs of Addi turbos for 75% off--all in sizes I use all the time and had been wanting. So that was cool. But I am so sad about the yarn store closing.
That's pretty much the only deal I've ever stumbled upon!

It is a little sad. We have three LYS in a fairly small town--I think this one was around the longest. Great score on the Addis!

Ooh, 3 stores? I have to drive 40 minutes to the closest one--at least it's a nice big one! I think there are only 3 in my whole state

Of course, before we moved here, I lived around the corner from a yarn store...but that was before I had even thought about learning to knit or crochet and so never even gave it a second glance

I would be in serious financial trouble if I lived 'round the corner from a yarn store! What's nice is that all three (well, soon only two) stores have fairly different stock, so there is a lot of variety available.

Cool find!
My best find was 12 balls of a vintage wool mix yarn. It's sort of a pale orange with cream.
It's from France. I paid $2.00 for all 12.
