What do you usually needed to buy a car in France?

Please, we need advice on this situation as we are feeling concern over not having a car and living in Manosque without one.

It is looking like we will not be able to take our car over with us, as we have a lease. Even if we bought it, we would have to pay the car off totally before we could take it from the US/Canada/Mexico to France.

So, we need to be ready to buy a car in France when we get there!

What is usually required to purchase a car in France? Can anyone let us know how the buying process goes in France, i.e. down payment, credit check, employment check, etc?

Here in the US, the car dealer does a credit check; checks employment, the buyer needs to provide pay check stubs and often needs some money as a down payment, say like $3000 - $5000 dollars. Then there is a contract of time to make monthly payments to actually buy the car off. With the lending market in distress here in the US it is getting ever harder to gat a loan to buy basically anything.

Thanks

I don't know ! I've only ever bought second-hand cars in France, in which case you pay cash (or with a check certified by your bank).
Does the dealership provide a loan here ?? Good question. It might be only provided directly by a bank, and you would have to give proof of employment + salary. No credit check here the way it exists in the US.
I'm sorry, this might not be helping much.
