Did insurance refuse to pay for your birth?

I've heard that insurance can refuse to pay if you sign out AMA. Now I'm hearing they can refuse to pay if you refuse an IV or any other medical treatment. Has this actually happened to anyone? I wouldn't have the nerve to sign out AMA after the birth for fear of insurance not paying... but, I don't want to have to get an IV too...

I responded to your other post but I didn't have an IV(I ended up needing one later...like an hour or two after my ds was born) and my insurance paid just fine.

Call your insurance company and ask. When I was pregnant with Caroline the OB I was seeing as backup said that if I signed the baby out AMA (I was GBS+ and planning on refusing abx) insurance wouldn't pay for the baby's hospital stay, but I just called my insurance company and they said they would. When I was in the hospital at 41 weeks following a car accident I signed out AMA b/c they wanted to induce me and those bills were paid, too.
