Hope this link works. For some reason I'm not surprised to see it on the front of our paper. I haven't even read the whole thing. I got mad a few paragraphs in.

I just read it on the front page of mine too (same paper) and I had to stop multiple times to vent to DH.. They said it looks at both sides~ no it looks at the pro vax stance about 70% and adds deadly stories about those who didn't vax.. and I love it's all about the fear of autism yet again.. don't they get it?

It's a better article than most, but it still contains several sentences that makes one scratch their head, like this:

Quote:
"Mercury is toxic to the brain..."
So by being in vaccines the mercury magically becomes non-toxic?

and some that are only half true, like these:

Quote:
"Still, by 2001, makers of vaccines removed thimerosal from most vaccines — except for the flu vaccine — as a precaution."
No, not all thimerosal. But I am glad they mentioned it is still in flu shots, most reporters fail to mention this.

Quote:
"Critics target Offit not only for his outspokenness, but also because he's making money from a vaccine he helped develop to prevent rotavirus, a disease that causes potentially fatal vomiting and diarrhea."
Many articles only tell you he is head of such and such hospital, so it's great they talk about his conflict of interest.

Quote:
"Clearly the risk associated with getting diseases of childhood, such as measles, are very serious."
I really wish they would stop trying to portray measles as a death sentence. Its pretty annoying.

The Internet teems with frightening stories about the harm they supposedly do
Yeah, I suppose it was all just figments of our imagination.

Some in the antivaccine movement call Dr. Paul Offit the Antichrist. He laughs at the name.
Who in the name of Responsible Journalism does this? Offit's been playing the martyrdom card lately, so this wee factoid probably came directly from him.

He knows parents dislike seeing children get painful shots.
Oh no. Not this one again! The pro-vax crowd always targets this as an alleged objection of their opponents. I have yet to find one thread in this forum, let alone a post, focused on how somebody's chief concern about vaxes is the prick.

Quote:
"But in many ways, they're safer than vitamins."

Please tell me that no one out there really believes this . . . .

I kept grumbling to dh too. And then to turn to the "neighborhood times" and read about the toddler who did have a Hib and still got meningitus (sp) anyhow. I wonder how many people who commented about needing vaxes after the online article read that story?

I'm getting so sick of these articles!
