Kindle or Sony E-reader?

I love love love the idea of these. My bookshelves are stacked 2 deep. I hate carting huge books to work and weighing down the diaper bag. I've been reading the pros and cons and I just can't decide. My sister has the Sony and loves it. Does anyone have either of these and shed some light on why they love them. Any help would be appreciated!

Jumping in to say I'm also torn between the two and would love to hear opinions from people who have one or the other.

Which one are you leaning towards?? I love the idea of being wireless but I don't mind hooking up to download since I do that for my iPod anyways. I love the idea of highlighting with the Kindle but Sony lets you bookmark pages. I love the look of the Sony better than the kindle but don't rely totally on looks. The sony is cheaper. Grrr..so many choices.

Today at Target they were handing out coupons for 10 free ebooks for the sony reader. I was only thinking about the Kindle up until today--now I am looking at both and the savings on the Sony is pretty big. But the download feature on kindle is nice...touch screen on the Sony is nice....ugh I can't decide!

I was actuallly looking at the other e-reader not the touch screen. B/c its a hundred bucks cheaper than the kindle and the new e-reader is like 400!

ETA: also if you buy the ereader right now you get 100 free classic e books!!!

SO I was just watching some videos on the two and the Kindle really does have better software. It also renders the pages better, IMO--- more space between the lines to make it easier on the eyes.

Plus I can imagine myself being in a random place and suddenly having the urge to read this or that book...so the download feature would come in handy.

eta: yeah i just noticed that some of the sony features are new to the new reader

Just ordered my Kindle and it doesn't get here till February thanks to Oprah! I decided mostly b/c of the library selection. Amazon has a bigger selection compared to Sony and cheaper books!

That and I'm more out of my house than in and that makes the wireless feature important to me. Plus the highlighting, dictionary and note taking!
I decided the Kindle was a better fit. YAY!

You can bookmark on Kindle also, not just highlight. And 100 free classic books, sorry that isn't tempting you can get those all over the net for free. I bought my kindle last spring and love it to death.

Well I canceled my Kindle order. It was just going to take too long and they are releasing a new Kindle around the same time. Then my DH surprised me with a RED Sony ereader. I absolutely love it! I've only downloaded one book b/c I have 5 hard backs I'm trying to finish. I played with it though and I do love it. Plus I can put the books I've already bought online on it. I love that I can do it from other sites. All in all a great gift. And it's so think like a ipod it weighs nothing!! I love it!!

None have an optional back lighting attached, which I would want for reading in the car.

Also, I don't like that the Sony doesn't read PDFs very well and has it's own program. The reason I don't buy Sony cameras is because they make their own batteries that their cameras require, I hate that.

I don't intend to buy one until they go down in price.

The new sony does have lighting on it. Its touch screen. I use a booklight clipped on and it works great!

But Sony still has that program thing.

I would want to be able to use the ebooks I already have.

I think I would choose the Kindle just because it has more options, but I am still waiting until such things are cheaper.

I can use the ebooks I already have. The kindle you can only use amazon files. Sony supports others. I'm confused.

That is not true with the kindle you can only use amazon files. If you purchase kindle books, from Amazon the files are sent as DRM protected .amz files, which is basically a .mobi file with digital rights management. But it reads .mobi and .prc files and they have a free service to convert word documents and .pdfs.

I downloaded a free program online and have converted many books and documents I had on .pdf and in word files and have them on my kindle. I also DL freeware mobi file books online pretty often.

Oh and it also plays audio books and mp3s although I have multiple iPods so I never use it for that.

One of the biggest benefits of Kindle IMO is the search feature ( I can search inside a specific book or in my whole library) and the ability to get samples of books sent wirelessly so I can see if I really want to buy it.

Ooh I didn't know that. Thanks. I just know the books I already had (ebooks) I can use on my Sony now. And about the music you can do that on Sony too but I don't. I use my ipod also.
