Game Systems purchase support/thoughts needed--

So I returned the Wii and the G Hero stuff and all the extra thingies so multiple children can play and dh went out with my techie brother to buy Playstation 3 instead. This would be our first game system (except for hand held gameboys). The kids at home are 16, 15, 9, but we are a gathering place and tend to have lots of kids over frequently. (The oldest is home at college breaks). Did I do the right thing taking the Wii back?

Some people were telling me their kids didn't like the Wii that much, that Pllaystation 3 was a better value, and games can be had cheaper and were better, and they could still play Playstation G Hero etc

True? Not?

Maybe I don't want to know that I should not have returned the Wii items.

Are you anti-Microsoft?

If I had young children or older children/adults who do not play above PG games, I would definately go with the Wii.

If I had older children/ adults I would go with the X-Box 360.

What type of games do you think you will mostly want?

Honestly, after having owned both, for the age groups of your kids, the PS3 is better graphically to keep their attention. The games are geared more so for T and up that are the good games. The Wii is more for the whole family including 5 yr olds and up. If you and your other play with the kids then yes, you shouldn't have returned the Wii. If neither of you play, then the PS3 is by far the better one for teens and up. I sold our PS3 to buy the Wii so that our family could play all together and I could use it for the Fit and pictures. But now I am considering buying the PS3 again for some of the games. We all like to play on the weekends and we have single guys that come over a lot during the summer to get out of the baracks and we all play on one day. We use the Wii for family fun night once a month.

OK. He came back with nothing. lol He says we don't have HD, so we don't need PS3, but maybe PS2, which is much cheaper. We are also considering XBox 360. So I'm going to take the kids to the sotre to see what games they like best and decide from her. Whatever, there is a Gutiar Hero something in our future.

What are your teens fav games. (And Grand Theft Auto is not on our list. That's too much of a leap for me to make right now). What about your 8-10 yr old's favs?

Should I be anti -Microsoft? I don't have any opinions there...does MS make Wii or PS?

Because I am so luddite-ish, or because I said it wrong? Is there more to PS3? I was going to mention Blue Ray there, too, but I have know idea what that means... I really didn't get what dh was talking about.

Sorry. It's a guy thing with the HD. Every friend of mine has a husband that either wants HD or has HD. It's like the one thing they associate the TV with. The PS3 plays all movies, plus the new BlueRay movies.

oh. lol My dh isn't into anything like that. My brother is, and he is advising us. My brother tried to talk dh into HD TV tonight while at Best Buy and my dh was like "Why would I spend the money on something like that?" We have the saddest TVs known to humans, according to my bro. He calls our place Fuzzvision, All The Time. lol

My dh wouldn't know the top of a game control from the bottom. But I think he'll love Guitar Hero, since he plays bass.

I just didn't know why you weren't considering an X-Box 360 (or original X-Box). Wii & X-Box are the two I would consider at this point.

HD does look better, but it's not the end of the world if you don't have it. We don't have it and I don't see the need to run out and get it either. That's funny that your brother is trying to get your dh to get it. I can imagine the convo there at the store.

I just forgot about that one. It's on the table for consideration. I returned the Wii. That's off the table. lol

LOL My brother is single & likes his toys. He's helped us with our techie purchases, mostly because he's so much fun to listen to. It's all pixel this and pixle that...and dh and I are like "We don't see what you see". lol He's always cool when we say we don't need eleventybillion pixels or what not.

We did buy the kids a laptop tonight and wireless...router, is it?

We have one computer we all share, and it's getting tight...especially with one kid in high school, and another teen doing so much art on line.

My brother was just happy we bought *something* he suggested. It was a good deal, too, according to him.
