shedded rotavirus?

My dd just got rotavirus vaccine and seems to have some mild gas, tummy upset, diarhea, etc
Now myself and my husband have upset stomaches, diarhea.
Is this a coinsidence or does this vaccine shed? Anyone experienced this or heard of it? Just wondering....

Yup, it sheds. Live virus will excrete in the stool after vaccination. Her symptoms are consistant with the vaccine as well. You need to be super careful when changing diapers and practice really good hand washing hygeine.

It sounds like it is too late for yourself and your husband, but be careful not to be spreading it with others.

Did they not tell you this when you got the vaccine? I am not trying to be snarky, I am just curious since we don't vax, and I don't know what information is provided.

They gave me paper information but it is along the lines of here's the info, here's the vaccine, all done have a good day. I've looked into the vaccines she was going to be given but all I read was that she could show symptoms not that it could be passed on. Oh well, the symptoms aren't that bad, I was just wondering. It felt like a mild case of food poisoning, but since I've only been eating at home I've sure it wasn't food poisoning.

It does shed. Sadly, a little girl in one of my daughter's playrooms on another parenting site ended up with the rotavirus just days after getting the vaccine. She ended up in the PCIU for a few days. Thankfully she's home and doing well. However, the doctors in the hospital said it had nothing to do with the vaccine. Whatever!

Hi Erica!
Good to see you here

It is a live virus so it can cause (as you're seeing) the exact bug it's meant to prevent, plus it sheds so anyone who is around can catch it too. My cousins little one had the vax right after the new year last year and half my family about pooped/ puked ourselves to death after celebrating the holidays with him and his folks. Rota is a VERY virulent bug and can rarely be washed completely away from hands if you have changed a diaper, wiped a bum, etc. So even if you are very careful to wash hands and clean door knobs, etc. there are still high numbers of the bug remaining for others to catch.
