Good toxin free baby shampoo/lotions?

I've been looking for something new to use on our newborn baby-to-be. I don't want to spend a fortune either. Any ideas?

When mine where teeny, I put steel-cut oatmeal in a cheesecloth bag and would just put it the bathwater. Mosturises and leaves the oils alone. I still do it sometimes, like now that it's cold and dry.

Oatmeal is great for dry skin or hair.

Cheap solution for a baby...water. They don't get dirty smelly so spot cleaning is fine. I didn't use soap on ds until he was 3 IIRC.

Ditto. Mine is 2.5 and I've never used shampoo - her hair is in amazing shape.

We use Burts Bees which seems pretty reasonably priced.

I had just come here to ask a similar question! I read the thread about using honey as a facial cleanser and was wondering if that'd be a good thing to use on babies, too. I know they're not supposed to ingest it, but it would it be alright to use externally?

I'd be nervous about using honey on a baby, because the baby might accidentally ingest some of it. I don't think there's any risk of botulism from honey applied topically, but babies put everything in their mouths. Get some honey in the water, then baby touches the water and sucks his or her fist... it just seems too risky.

Newborns really don't need soap at all- water alone is more than adequate for a tiny baby. Once they start crawling into mud, eating solids, etc, they may need more cleaning power, at least some of the time. Any mild soap, diluted enough, is fine. Too much soap is drying, but almost any soap (ivory, castille, or something fancier) is gentle when used sparingly and only when needed.

I have Dr. Bronner's baby soap (it's a blueish bottle). There's no scent. I only use a tiny bit on my girls.
