Hi Mamas! I'm Shannon, and I 'm pregnant with #4. Things may get a little complicated for me due to my last 2 births. My 2nd ds was born with an ABO blood incompatibility (my O blood had formed antibodies against the baby's As and after birth, my Os attacked his blood cells). He ended up being in the NICU for 7 days and needed an IV Immunoglobulin treatment and almost had to have a blood transfusion. I went to a specialist during #3 pregnancy and they prescribed a drug to take for ten days before birth - this would prevent a post-birth reaction IF the baby had the same blood type as the 2nd. But I never had a chance to take the drug, because #3 arrived at 34.5 weeks, as healthy as could be, and with my blood type! So, my *issues* are 1) taking the phenobarbitol for the ten days prior to delivery in case #4 has same blood type as #1 and #2, and 2) preventing preterm labour. Fun fun fun!

Hello All! I’m Melissa from Delaware, and it’s about time for me to introduce myself. I’m about 6 weeks 3 days pregnant; with an expected due date of August 21st.

This is my fourth pregnancy. My first two were heartbreaking: first – ended in miscarriage at 9+ weeks, second – I developed severe preeclampsia at 26 weeks and had to deliver by emergency c-section; the baby lived five short but heroic days. My third pregnancy was very high-risk, but relatively smooth sailing – resulting in my now 16 month-old son. I’m also mom to an 18 month-old daughter who we brought into our family through adoption.

SO – pregnancy for me is filled with hope and anticipation – but – also it’s very scary and stressful. We had a viability ultrasound yesterday afternoon, and my husband and I both felt a combination of nausea and faintness. We were a mess.

The result of the ultrasound seemed okay – the doctor said we’re earlier than originally calculated (we thought 7 weeks), but that for a 6.2 week pregnancy everything looked normal.

ANYWAYS! I’m excited to be here with you all. Hopefully I can stick around awhile.

Hello mamas!! My name's Kara. I'm 22 and I have one Ds who is 22 months! I found out I was pregnant almost 4 weeks ago but when we went in for an ultrasound to determine how far along (I never got back on track with my cycles after Ds was born so I only had a guess!) they said it was too early to determine (less than 4wks) .. That didn't make sense to me because I had gotten a positive pregnancy test 2 weeks before that appointment. Maybe my math was off? but it just didn't seem right. I've been hesitant to post but I figured I should introduce myself! Now I am just eagerly awaiting my next appointment to make sure everything is ok! : I should be due the first week in August!

They have been just blowing off my concern - I asked for a blood test and they said no. I asked for another ultrasound and they said I'd have to wait. They won't even see me for 2 more weeks! They won't even listen to me! Ugh! I think I will be calling a new place on Friday.

that doesn't sound right. I think if you have another care provider available to you, it might be wise to seek a second opinion. If they aren't listening to your concerns now, what is it going to be 8 months from now when you're in labor?

Hi everyone,

I'm a single mother by choice, pregnant with #1, due on 12 August 2009. I had my first appointment with my midwife yesterday and it was SO exciting. Every time she referred to "baby" I'd get this tingling feeling all over (which is a great alternative to the non-stop nausea I've been experiencing since 5 weeks).

Looking forward to a home birth, clothing diapering, co-sleeping future with my little one!

Fiona

I agree that that's just wrong. You're at the perfect time to change practices - if you're not getting the attention you need, then maybe your practice isn't the right fit for you.

Hello! My name is Heather and I am feeling a bit odd man out in some of these threads I am 33 and pregnant with my first. We were not TTC so this was more of a surprise. It's a bit odd being in your 30's (that alone still catches me off guard some days : ) and pregnant with only your first.

I am currently planning a homebirth since I know I really want a water birth. After that I have a lot to learn and it seems much time to learn as I am due August 11th.

I didn't like my first OB and switched and though I think I am going to switch to a midwife if I did decide to go with a Hospital birth I would stay with the second practice as they have been fantastic! Don't settle with your care, get some one who will listen to you!

I've decided to go to my appointment next week and see how it goes. I will tell them that I felt like I wasn't taken seriously. I love my dr, but the nurses and the people who work in the office are really not the best!

Hello!

Hello!

My name is Kathryn. I have one DD who will be 4 just after I have baby #2 in late Aug. Currently 7 weeks pregnant. I had a natural birth with DD, and am planning a homebirth with this baby. We're moving from FL to WA in Feb, so I don't have the details worked out yet!

Looking forward to sharing the coming months with you all!

Best,
Kathryn

Hi everyone!
I’m new here. My name is Ryann, I’ll be 30 in June. I am a SAHM going to school online to get a degree in business. I have 3 kids, a girl who just turned 9 and two boys who will be 7 and 4 in March. I am due Aug. 21st making me 7 weeks 4 days right now. I am still up in the air about the birth. With my 1st I had her in the hospital with an epidural, knowing I did not want that to happen again I delivered at a birth center and had water births with my boys, they were born in the same bathtub in the same room 3 years 1 weeks apart from each other, kind of cool…But the birth center has since closed so it’s either back to the hospital or do a home birth. Being 30 minutes away from the closest hospital kind of scares me so that’s my hold up… I am intervening a midwife this week and have a Dr. appointment set up for next week so I have to make my decision soon.
Well good luck to everyone, I am looking forward to learning more about you all!!

Hi Heather! I was 37 when I had our first, and just finishing my first career, so I know how you feel. I've had tons of fun with our little Peanut - motherhood is cool! (And tiring!)

I'm 31 and I have one son, age 2. He's still nursing. This new baby is due August 8th. We birth at home, but this time I'm in a new state where CPMs aren't recognized. My last birth was with a CNM in Texas. I loved it.

I love seeing VBAC mamas, btw.

Thought I'd join in.

I'm Amber, and I'm due with our first around the 24th of August. My husband and I got married on July 26th, 2008, and started trying the same month. We found out we were expecting on December 13th, while we were on our honeymoon in Cuba!
