How much did your homebirth cost?

I've had two births - one was a birth center transfer to hospital due to exhaustion and the other was a beautiful, fast birth center birth. They both only cost me $5 because my insurance paid everything. I did pay $600 for a doula and that was a stretch for us (we were in the middle of moving, my husband is leaving his job to finish an unpaid internship so money was/is tight). I know that homebirths are much cheaper than hospital births but not if insurance pays for it! So I'm just curious what you all paid for your homebirths and whether anyone wasn't able to do a homebirth because of financial reasons.

We are paying 2,700. WAY cheaper for us then a hossy cuz we do not have insurance (plus I heart my midwives).

Honestly, even if we HAD insurance, we would still be having a homebirth. I cant LOOK at a hospital without having a panic attack, lol.

ours is costing about 4500-5000. It could have cost us 3500 but we wanted to hire a doula too, got the tub with the heater, etc etc... all the little things add up quickly!

We dont have Insurance (for maternity) either but qualified for state assistance that would have paid for the birth so we wouldnt have had to pay a cent... or a very minimal amount. My husband and I decided we would rather pay for the homebirth!!! :

My last one was 3,500 for the MW which is was only a little higher then most of the MW's charge in my area. It was a steal for us considering that our insurance doesn't cover maternity and an in and out easy hospital birth would of cost us close to 12K.

My last was $2100 in Ohio, which included the pool (birth supplies were an extra $60), and this time in GA its $2300, that includes the pool and I'm sure the birth supplies will be extra as well.

I'm in Manitoba, Canada, and midwives and homebirths are covered by provincial health. The only money I paid out of pocket was less than $10 for extra sheets and shower curtains for the bed.

We are so fortunate up here to have a government that realizes homebirth is a completely safe option for many women and covers the cost of it.

My midwife's standard fee is $1500, but we are paying her about $2200 b/c she drives from about an hour away and gas is (was) so expensive. I did the math from her house to mine @ 10 MPG for each appt and added $700 on.

We have a back up OB as well (who doesn't know we aren't planning a hospital birth) so I don't know how much he'll end up costing yet.

$2k, plus supplies, including birth pool (maybe another $300-400? also includes some testing I had to pay extra for).

The birth was covered by insurance, too. If it hadn't been covered, I think the price would have been closer to double.

$1850, plus supplies, plus we had to travel 45 minutes each way for prenatal visits. None of it was covered by insurance.

My hospital birth WITH insurance was $4,000. The MW here charge between $1400-3600.

I qualify for Medicaid and could have my whole birth paid for. However, my midwife also told me that midwives don't charge midwives. So I am just paying for things like my labwork and my birth kit. If I needed a sono, I have two options. One of the places takes Medicaid or the nicer place I would have to pay cash.

Our homebirth will cost us $1600 (including prenatal/postnatal care), plus supplies we will purchase. Insurance won't cover anything.

Our hospital birth (vaginal, no epidural) cost over $10,000. After insurance, we had to pay over $2000 of that out of pocket.

$1800. This was for the birth only. Long story, but i switched to a different midwife at 38 weeks preggo.

Would have had to pay a few hundred for a hospital birth.

Here in Austin, it was $2,400, plus $100 for the birth pool rental and maybe $300 for lab fees and an optional ultrasound. I thought it was a very reasonable price, and money well spent.
My crappy insurance doesn't cover maternity care, in or out of hospital.

$3000 in Virginia, and Medicaid will cover some of that (not sure how much yet). Our insurance wouldn't add maternity coverage for us since we didn't tell them 6 months in advance. They would not have covered homebirth at all. I never even looked into how much a hospital birth would cost, but I'm guessing Medicaid would have covered 100% or close to it.

$2,200 for midwife
$ 100 for supplies (birth kit, herbs, tablecloths, etc.)
$ 200 for birth pool and liner
$ 250 hypnobirthing class
______
$2,750

All but the midwife was reimbursed through our medical flex spending plan.

We would have paid $500 deductible in hospital and cost the insurance system alot more...it was worth every penny and more to have our home birth.

My MW's cash price is $3,000 plus $100 for birth classes and around $60 for birth kit. My insurance covers it so we only have to pay our $1500 ded.

Insurance covers homebirth in NY so my homebirth was covered. We gave the MW some extra and also paid for some supplies and such, so it cost us some but it cost us less than our hospital birth with insurance a few years earlier (ended up paying $1800 of that).

Our insurance is covering the homebirth but they don't cover the birth assistant ($650). And then if we want the tub that's an extra $250. Plus the homebirth kit.

I didn't think that was so bad.......
I just feel so lucky we can have a homebirth!

MWwas $1800 for the birth plus $35 for each visit with her...drove 30 min to her house each time...paid $200 for U/S.
