What has been the greatest Christmas song ever?

John Lennon, Happy Xmas (War Is Over), Fairytale Of New York, The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, Bruce Springsteen, Do They Know Its Christmas, Band Aid or something else?

This Day in Music have launched a poll to find out what your favourite Christmas songs are.

What song would you pick? You can see a full list of songs and vote on http://www.thisdayinmusic.com

I love Alan Jackson's Let it be Christmas *swaying with the music*

All those songs are great but of them Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" would have to be my pick from that list. Closely followed by Little Drummer Boy, Happy Xmas(War is Over), and Springsteen's Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

My true favorite is not on the list, which is I'll Be Home for Christmas (the original). I love this song...even if I do inexplicably start bawling like an infant everytime I hear it.

Oh, Holy Night (Josh Groban)

Let It Be Christmas (Alan Jackson)

Do They Know It's Christmas (Band-Aid)

The Christmas shoes (Newsong)

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas (I have NO idea and it drives me NUTS)

Probably in that order.

From that list, Little Drummer Boy by Crosby and Bowie.

However none of my true faves are on that list. I like the traditional ones...

I look forward every year to hearing a soloist at our church sing "O Come, O Come Emanuel". I get goosebumps just thinking of that song. But can't sing it because I don't have a good enough voice.

My dd is learning to play The Holly and the Ivy on the piano, which is another one of my favorites.

Angels we have heard on High

The Hallelujah chorus from The Messiah...

SADHS: I think "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" is from Meet Me in St Louis. It's a fun Christmassy family movie, actually. Judy Garland. Cheesy as all-get-out, but fun.

I like "Once in Royal David's City", especially as sung by a choirboy during a particularly poignant moment in Shadowlands.

And after working in a mall for several years running, anything that isn't Snoopy's Christmas gets props from me.

Yeah, there are so many versions and I cannot for the life of me figure out which one I heard waaaaay back when. I've downloaded 20 just today and none are the one song. UGH. Thanks, though!

All I know is, it's NOT that one folks were discussing last year, about the boy buying a pair of shoes for his dying mother. Uh-uh.

The Christmas Shoes? It came out in 2000. Depressing, but good!

This is my favorite, it has to be the Judy Garland version or it's not right.
It makes me cry every time.
