Still with the birth certificate drama--ARGHH!!!!

You may remember from this post that my midwife/her assistant messed up my youngest's birth certificate, and the state was being a PITA about reissuing it with the right date/father's name. My midwife promised to send them something that would pass as records. She never did and has gone missing or something; I can't get a hold of her.

I called the state back and talked to someone new who was actually helpful and said the law said the notarized affidavit we sent in the first place should be sufficient. She was supposed to call back today.

All's well that ends well, right?

Except they still have the wrong freaking father's name of the birth certificate. My husband is a III, they listed him as a IV.

GAH!!!

I wondered for a while if it might not be easier to just get DH to change his name, but then he pointed out that the other three children's BCs would then be wrong.

and a  I'm so sorry Annette. I only laugh b/c we're going through similar BC dramam here and if you don't laugh, well, you get POed.

When DS was born in 11/07, the MW filled out the BC application EXACTLY as she was supposed to. Apparently, someone at the County Health Dept messed it up but still sent it along to the VA DoH. I requested a certified copy of his BC in February and when I hadn't received it after 3wks, I called them. They told me there was some problem w/ the BC application and they had sent it back to the County DoH and were waiting on its return.

Well, about 2wks later I get the BC, but I get a phone call saying they put his birth number wrong and they needed the BC back so they could issue a correct one. I sent back what I had and got a new one. I then found out that they wouldn't issue a SSN w/ the BC b/c of their mess up the "deadline" for births for 2007 had come and gone, so I would have to apply for the SSN myself. This was in April.

I have 3 kids now. I JUST got around to going to the SS office. Know what?? His BC is STILL WRONG!!! I hadn't even noticed it on my own. The lady at the SS office pointed out that my married name is listed as my maiden name : Now I have to send the BC I have BACK to the VA DoH with a letter telling them its wrong and I have to wait for a new BC before I can apply for a SSN. So yeah, we didn't claim DS2 on our taxes this year and I'm hoping to get everything done in time to file for 2008.

You'd think these DoH employees would KNOW their jobs by now!!!

I really don't know how these things happen. We have had our own fiasco with the D'OH lol. How do you change a III to a IV? I would say someone needs glasses.

Well, our midwife and/or her apprentice messed up. They also had the wrong date.

I've had two BC's that have screwed up. I still have never gotten my oldest 6y old's fixed, by now I figure that she can live with it having DH's state listed wrong. Our MW messed up DD2's name, but that was actually easily resolved, now if only the first one was like that....
