My Beautiful Zoe, but failed VBAC

Well ladies, I wanted to update you all on the birth of Zoe!

Zoe
11-20-08
2:49pm
9lbs 8oz
20.5 in

I went to the doc for my 42+2 week appointment.. and we decided that induction would be the best way. I have tried everything natural up to this point, and with the risk of VBACing, we both thought it was best. I went into the hospital at 7pm on wed, the 19, and the nurses inserted a Foley cath... as they did it, my water broke.... with mec.. It wasnt very thick, but there was a ton of water! So labor started, and I progressed to about 3-4 in about 4 hours with the help of the Foley.. by midnight, they started pit, a slow drip, but increased it every hour or so. By 3am, I was feeling the contrax really good and called my Doula to come and assist with laboring. We labored and labored all night and pretty much all morning.. no rest for the weary... Labor was starting to go to my back, and the pain and exhaustion were getting to me. I was checked a couple of times, and by 10am, I was still a 4. (kinda how DD1 birth went) We decided that with my water already broken, mec, and me laboring and tired, to get an epi to see if that will help.. It was put in shortly after 10 and I rested for a couple of hours. DH and I decided that if there was not significant changes in the next two hours, we would opt for the repeat C. We felt as though the baby wasnt dropping and with me not dilating there was really no need to continue to risk the baby, my uterus, and the time and energy to see if anything more would happen. At 12, there was no change at all.. never mind significant! We called our OB and told them we wanted the C and she said she can do it at 2. I have been going through so many changes regarding DD1 birth and the fact that I felt the c-sec wasnt my choice ,and knowing that I did everything I could with DD2, I was comfortable and secure making that decision. So off to the OR we went, and DH and i were soooo excited to meet our DD2. She was so beautiful and looked just like DD1 when she came out. I held her right away, and started breastfeeding within an hour, and it was so different than the first C. SO to recovery I went, and the next morning out of bed, and moving and eating and nursing.. It was bliss. By that night, over 24 hours after surgery I felt really horrible, achey and beat up. My incision was oozey too, which wasnt right. Doc checked it out, had to reopen it, and it was bleeding a little inside. they stopped it, and now, I have it open, packed and covered, but no staples or sutures to close it, and it is to heal from the inside out. This is the worst part. I am moving around, and they did send me home on Sat, however, We change the packing 2 times a day, and I am so afraid of an infection, or it not healing properly. I am able to care for DD1&2, but not the same way if it wasnt open. DH goes back to work in a week or a little more, and I am hoping to feel a lot better by then! But we are home, together, and enjoying everything!!

Congrats on the birth of your little girl!
I'm sorry you had to have a repeat C, but it sounds like you were in control a lot more over the process this time and that you had a better overall experience. Sorry about the incision, though--hope that heals up soon!

Congratulations :! It sounds like you did all you could and empowered yourself! Your body will heal, but it takes time. In my line of work, I see many, many pp women for incision dehiscence. Maintain good nutrition, drink lots of fluids, rest your body, and spend lots of time with Zoe! Babies really are the best medicine! I hope you heal fast!

Congrats on your little one!!!!!
Sorry about the VBAC, I too had a failed Vbac a few years ago, but at least we gave it a shot! The labor was good for the baby.
Hope you heal soon!
