What is your baby doing?

It seems like my daughter is doing things a lot faster than her brother did...

She has been consistently holding her head up straight by herself and moving it side to side since she was 5 days old. She stands up in my lap all on her own and bears all of her weight (I just hold her hands at chest level so she doesn't lose her balance). And yesterday she stayed sitting up for 10-15 seconds after I let go of her.

I just find this odd since she just turned 1mth old.

Anyone else's baby doing this stuff?

Eowyn has had real tears when crying since minute one. I know, not exactly a motor skill, but I was under the impression that didn't happen for a few weeks usually. She's also had pretty good head control from the beginning. Otherwise she doesn't do a whole lot of anything, and to be quite honest I'm still not sure what to do with her either!

Calla is a big baby and really strong. She seems to hit a lot of the "milestones" on the early side, particularly the physical ones.

Personally, I think she could do a backflip through a flaming hoop if there was a boob on the other side.

From what I understand, with all babies, there are some things they will do earlier than most babies, and others they may do later. This is my first child, so I don't know much about it all honestly.

Oh yeah, this reminds me that I dreamt Calla was already walking the other night. We were on a hiking trail and she was walking right behind me. She looked so cute walking around all tiny!

My MIL recently had a dream that Calla was already talking, and she taught her to recite the Gettysburg Address.

Why the Gettysburg address, I wonder?

Milo was holding his tiny noggin up and looking around on day 2. No Kidding. DS 1 did that too. He cried real tears the first week, and I thought that was a bit early, too. He follows objects with his eyes, and turns his head toward a voice. He actually tilted his head way back trying to see DS1 who was behind him on the bed! He grabs my hair when I hold him up to burp him.

Last week, he started to stand up in my lap. He's trying to smile, but it looks so funny, and it makes his dimple show!

He can also raise one eyebrow! And I swear his ears wiggled in his sleep yesterday!

Calli has been holding her head up pretty good since day 1 too. Now she is doing really good. I don't have to be so careful anymore. She is crying real tears, but just in the last week. She will crank her head to look at me when I talk and the other day she saw DH walking by and followed him with her eyes. She looks up at the toys hanging in her swing and will try and grab them. She has rolled onto her side 3 times since she was born. She is smiling once in a while and making a lot of "happy" cooing sounds now. She will be 5 weeks on Thursday.

laughup

My babe seems normal to me. 1 month old yesterday. She has always been able to lift her head from side to side and now has pretty decent head control. Her smiling started purposefully at 2 weeks and now she gives me smiles all the time. She began cooing around 3 1/2 weeks. Just last night she bore weight on her little legs on her changing table.

Milo rolled over! I put him on his belly, and he immediately rolled over onto his back! Then I put him on his tummy again to see if it had been an accident, but he rolled right over again! It was effortless!

oh, and he coos, sometimes, I forgot.

That's so cool!!!

Carolyn has been doing such a good job of social smiling. It's sooo sweet. Yesterday when DH came home from work she was all smiley for him when she first heard his voice. It's so amazing to see the cause and effect going on.

Nora will be 8 weeks tomorrow, and she smiles SO MUCH. She recognizes me and her Daddy and will smile and talk to us and have full conversations it seems. I don't need to support her head rarely ever (only if she's floppy from just eating or sleeping). She doesn't sit up on her own but she is SO HAPPY to sit when propped up. She wants to be up and looking around!

Anybody else's baby LOVE to watch TV? I mean, really love it? If she's not laying in a way she can see the TV she cries. We had to turn her swing so that she can watch, too. And she seems to like dramas, not cartoons. Interesting...

Samuel didn't steadily hold his head up (only played with the idea a tiny bit early on) until about 5 weeks! My first kids held their heads up in their first week/days though. He smiled socially at 5 weeks (only in his sleep before then).

And at 8 weeks he's just started to make a few coo noises.

Mostly though he screams, eats, pees, and needs help to sleep.... rinse and repeat.... sigh

Thalia holds up her head really well now, at 7.5 weeks. Her main use of this skill is to bonk her head really hard against our collar bones when she is annoyed, basically to let us know that she wants to eat.

From early on she has been able to go from her back to her side. And then sometimes has managed to scoot herself closer to me/my breasts. Even if she's sleepy and thus just presses herself against my clothes. In fact, she loves to do the faceplant thing after nursing too, pressing herself against my tummy/shirt. This is really not great for my fears of her suffocating!

During tummy time she can push up her head and tops of her shoulders and her little legs go up at the same time- so cute!

She smiles and coos at us a lot now, started that at 5 weeks. Makes our hearts just melt! Of course she's trying out a lot of other expressions too- frowns, confusion, slyness, disgruntled......she cycles through them so quickly!

Am I the only one who doesn't do tummy time? I've no idea what she can do in that department b/c I never put her down unless she's sleeping and even then, pretty much only at night. She doesn't like being on the ground and out of the action.

She does have great head control and has from day 1, able to hold it up and turn both ways. Occasionally it slumps forward or to the side if she's been holding it up for a while though!

She puts weight on her legs and loves to jump off my belly when I'm holding her up to my shoulder to burp.

She started smiling at about 3 weeks and really loves to see Dh - he gets the biggest smiles. She tracks things/people with her eyes.

My lo is right about where baby-cakes lo is it seems... except he's not into TV but he loves the swing mobile. He started this awesome deep chuckle a few days ago but only does it if I act REALLY stupid to amuse him.

YUP! Calli!!! I had to do the same thing with her swing. She will try to watch T.V. while I am bfing her which hurts when she pulls LOL. She is crazy for T.V. If she is up and awake and the T.V. is on, she is watching it. She loves sitting with her back against my chest, watching T.V. with us in the evening. She is so content.

okay- well, Thalia doesn't seem to watch TV. But yesterday we went to one of those movie theatres that have matinees for baby & mom & dad. And I swear she watched. I felt kinda bad about it cos the movie was James Bond and quite violent!!! I actually found myself covering her eyes and then I was like, uh, right, she has no idea what that is, if she even sees anything besides fun lights and shadows! heehee

how funny, i just read (i think in penelope leach's book) that tear ducts aren't usually fully formed until 1-2 months. that is so interesting! DD is 5 weeks old, still no tears. but she has also had amazing head control since pretty much day 1. it took DS a long time to not be floppy in the head.

Amber Lion, i don't do tummy time. DS hated it and DD seems to pretty much feel the same way. it just looks so uncomfortable for her and awkward when i lie her down on the boppy......

sonshine rae, i've got a screamer too. not quite colicky thank goodness, but pretty much every evening we hit the "witching hour" and it starts......it's so hard to not know what they need!

Ally's been holding her head up since she was 3 days old and was really steady by about a week or so. She started grinning and giggling in her sleep the week she was born and now does it all the time when she's awake. It makes me laugh out loud it's so cute! She's also doing a lot of coo'ing now and she's getting louder. Also absolutely adorable because she looks you in the eye when she does it and just twinkles. She rolled over from her belly to her back for the first time at 6wks and has done it a few more times in the last week. She loves tummy time and works her legs like she wants to crawl and can push herself up on her arms. So I put my had on the bottom of her feet to give her something to push against and she scoots. She gets frustrated doing this though because she really acts like she wants to GO somewhere. She also hates to lay down if you're holding her. She likes to be up on your chest/shoulder or standing up. Her legs are strong enough to stand with my help balancing. I swear all that step aerobics I did during pregnancy gave her some super strong legs! I have a feeling this little girl is going to give me a run for my money.....

I don't either, lol. I feel so selfish bc I just LOVE to hold her all the time, even when sleeping. She will lie down on her back for a little bit, but she HATES being on her tummy. My son was the same way. I finally gave up and just lte him be on his back... as soon as he was able to flip back to tummy he loved tummy time, so I may have to do that with this lo also.
