I Can Knit Socks, Right?

So, I am not an advanced knitter exactly. I've been knitting for a long time though (years and years). Prior to this year I never did anything besides knit and pearl flat. Recently I've started knitting in the round, different cast ons, different increases/decreases, and using actual patterns.

For my birthday, I got a book on knitting socks (because I've been interested but terrified at the same time). Well DH just says "If you want to knit socks, knit socks" and got the book even though I say it's scary....

So I won't be starting them until the New Year because I am BOOKED until the holidays, but I wanted to hear from Mamas who have knitted socks that I shouldn't stress. Then I can start looking forward to the project instead of being scared.

Take care,
El

Don't stress! You can do it. Just go slowly and follow the pattern. There are videos online too, if you need visual instructions. And even if you mess up, it can always be unraveled and started again.

I only started knitting a few months ago and I've made 3 pairs of scocks so far. If I can do it, you can do it!

Wow, that's impressive.
I've made two pairs. You can definitely do it. I've decided I don't really care to do it, at least at this point, but I like knowing I *can* do it

Choose a yarn you love. My first pair was for my then 1 year old dd because I wanted to start with a small project. I was scared, too, but had to see why so many people just love doing them so much. I can see how it could be addictive; it's very satisfying to make a pair of socks!

my first non-straight knitting was a sock. The hard part is doing the second one I "second sock syndrome". It was like five years ago, and since I've made 2 other socks... none of them matching each other

Go to knittinghelp.com and learn how to pick up stitches. I think that's likely the only new skill you'll need for it. The rest is all decreases or straight knitting unless you go fancy and do lace or something

El- you can totally do it! I was scared at first too- but really if you can read a pattern you will be fine. I just finished a pair of Monkeys and they are sooo awesome- yet so simple. get a good yarn- like trekking or something that is sturdy- and hop to it! I use either 1 1/2s or 1s- the 1 1/2s make socks so much faster! And decide if you want to do it on dpns, 1 circ or 2 circ! You will love the portability of it! and I know you have a little knitting bag coming that they will fit perfectly in!

You can certainly knit socks! your gauge is super important, so that all your hard work will yield a pair that fits you well. A good, basic sock pattern that uses a little heavier sock weight yarn (or even worsted weight) is always a great place to start. Enjoy the process, that is at least half the fun of knitting

Socks are so easy. you will kick youself for not doing it sooner.

crud, i lost the othe ones . . . .
I recommend starting on a pair of baby socks. why? because they ae fast, like an hour fast. and it is asie to figue out shaping the heal if you only have to do a few stitches.
