Help! Which Gaming System?

Ok, first let me say that I used to be very into game cube and original playstation. I haven't owned a system in years, but do play at friends houses from time to time. My mom called the other day and said she's getting my sister a wii for christmas and wanted to know if I wanted some kind of gaming system as well.

Here's the thing. I have NO clue what I want! So, I need some direction as to which system I should go with. I'm mainly looking at xbox 360 and PS3. I don't want a wii b/c I will be able to play my sisters. Any advice? What are the pros/cons of these two (or any other) systems?

ETA: I don't have any kids, so it will be just for me and my adult friends, if that makes any difference in the reccomendations.

It depends on what games you like and what you want the system to do. Dh and I are pretty big gamers. We have a 360, because it has the most games and is overall the best system. They also just upgraded Xbox live and now you can do a lot more, like watch streaming Netflix videos. Very cool.
The playstation is my least favorite. It's got some development issues, and a lot of the games don't come out for it until later (if they do at all).
