I got this thropugh facebook but it seems like the UK government are trying to force vaccines for school and to claim benefiits.

If something like that were passed, the UK would no longer be on my shortlist of places to move to.... being a British Citizen, I am going to look into this a bit more and sign to prevent this from passing if all looks good.

This seems like scaremongering to me. The UK govt. has no plans to mandate vaccines for schools, or to claim benefits, at ALL.

How do you know for sure? I'm not being snarky...just wondering how you know this to be true??

Well, I live in the UK, and I know that the scientists who advice the government advise that mandatory vaccination is absolutely not the way to go to increase vaccination rates. It just wouldn't be acepted.

Is there any proof they are trying to do this?! (petitions not included!) I really really don't think there is!

I wish that was the case for the US!

Ditto.

I find this highly unlikely, these petitions are sent out a lot of the time and not acted upon.

Its not going to happen.

Good, I'm glad this isn't for real. I am a British citizen in the US and was horrified to hear this could happen. I signed the petition anyway.....

I am often VERY SKEPTICAL of any email petitions or forwards like that. One, we should be very dubious of any claim that by signing some petition on Facebook, we can prevent a law from passing in COUNTRY WE DON'T EVEN LIVE IN! Also, these types of forwards contain very little corroborating facts or details. This is a little off-topic, but I'd refer to websites like Snopes.com, whose stock it is to debunk urban myths and internet rumors such as this.

I might not live in the UK now but I am a citizen of that country can vote there and can return at any point. My entire extended family live there, so i feel like preventing pasing laws there is my concern.

No, absolutely you'd want to prevent that law from passing if you believed it was a bad law! My point was that I wouldn't sign that petition because I think it's a hoax, or at least a bit of misinformation. Even if it were true, why would the British parliament respond to petitions that came largely from online signers in the US? It makes no sense. I mean, the US government would never say, "Look, we got 300,000 signatures from people in Britain saying that this law would be a bad idea." Sorry if I put it all a bit stridently.

I think it's a mistake, rather than scaremongering.

I don't think there are plans to force vaccination, but what Health Authorities have started doing recently is sending letters to parents of unvaccinated children saying 'your child may not be able to participate in some activities at school if they aren't vaccinated'. This is nothing to do with the schools (my home-educating friends got the letter!), but some people are reading the letters as 'You child can't go to school unless they've been vaccinated'.

My son is 18 months, and we just got the 'He will get measles and die unless you vaccinate' letter. Health Authorities seem to be taking a really aggressive stance on vaccinating, whilst not doing the things that would make more people inclined to vaccinate (provide the tetnaus jab singly and we'll be there like a shot!).

P.S. Does anyone know where you can get info on up to date measles cases by area in the UK?
