Baby boy knit vest pattern

I am in need of a sweater vest pattern for a 6-12 month old baby boy.

I need to whip this out in a few days so I'm in a rush.

Can anyone suggest an online pattern or steer me to a book where I can find one.

I am knitting it to match the dresses I got for the girls. It's easy to match girls for holiday pictures.....not so easy to get the baby boy to match.

Thanks!

A cardigan vest would be fine too...

LTK vested interests pattern. Uses worsted weight, and I can pull one off in 2 days and I knit like a drunken sailor.

Thank you. I have found it but now can't remember our Paypal password to purchase it. I really want to start on it tonight. UGH!

Do I go wake up dh to get the password.....dang.....he gets up at 4am to go to work. Oh boy......

I hope you found your password! I love the LTK vests, and can whip one out in two days, too and I'm way slow at kntting. They look really impressive like you put more into them.

So did you get it started? I keep wanting to cast on for a few this winter for my boys (all 3 of them) but I never get past the "do I have my size 8's in the right size circular" bit and then the next thing I know I'm saying "wasn't I going to start a vest....".

I'm never going to get any knitting done this winter.

thanks for the inspiration, ladies, I think I'll make one of these as well for my little one!

I did get the pattern! I got started today.

My baby has decided that he can't sleep unless he's attached to my nipple so my night time all to myself is over for a bit. I am hoping I can get him in the sling and nurse him to sleep and knit over top of him tonight.

I'd give anything for my kids to be young enough to knit with on my lap! The younger 2 are at the "cat" stage of life - they treat my yarn and needles like toys. I can't even knit a simple garter stitch piece without having to frog back and re-work. They're terrible. I do love them though. I'd rather have them than the knitting --- most of the time.

Ah, I got the pattern and the yarn is making a beautiful swirl all around! Don't you just love it when a variegated yarn comes out nicely? I'll share a picture when I'm done...hopefully in a couple of days...

How's yours going, puppyfluffer?

It's going slowly.

I am off in gauge. I have a 6 month old baby boy who is fitting in 6-9 month clothes on average and maybe a few 12 mo things that seem to run a bit small.

I did a gauge swatch and had to go up a needle size. I tend to knit a little tight. Even after going up a size, I still had too many stitches to the inch, so I just decided to make the 12 month size. I'm working in a worsted weight wool that I can shrink a tad if it's too big.

I'm at the point where I bound off the 6 stitches for the arm holes. Have not gotten back to it yet. Maybe tonight!

Quick question. I am working on the back part. I've cast off for the armholes and am now on the back, working up towards the neck. you have to decrease then you knit stockinette for a bit. It says 24 rows and 4.5 inches. Is this from the beginning of the straight stockinette or from the beginning of the cast off section? Am I making sense? It is looking too big overall.

That's how it is at my house too.

"Lem... no that's Mama's wool... Lemmie... no baby.... you can't play with Mama's wool.... LEM.... please honey, you're going to unravel Mama's wool... NO NO NO... we don't play with knitting needles!"

I love the "cat" reference.

Take care,
El

Judging by the little diagram of the vest with its measurements, I'd guess from the previous section of stockinette/from your castoff. Does that make sense? So your goal is to get the overall length to 11 inches, if that makes sense.

I'm with you on having my gauge off, even after going up on needle size. And usually I knit right on. I think it might be because I'm using a different yarn type, I'm using Paton's classic merino. I'm making the 2T size and might make it a little shorter, because my 15mo probably wouldn't fit into the 12mo but he's not in any 2T yet. And I just plan on using this for a picture and then for this winter, so not a problem to have it oversized.

Oh, you've made a lot more progress than I have! I haven't quite cast off yet.

Thanks for the input.

My general plan of action for knitting is to just leave it out on the kitchen counter. When I have a spare second, I knit a row or two. This only works on pretty straight forward stuff that I can get interrupted with. I wouldn't attempt it with a complicated pattern....but I've not done a complicated pattern yet LOL. I'm an intermediate beginner I'd say.

I too need this for a holiday photo. I'll share the photo when I have it done.

You're making the smallest size, right? Have you measured the baby? I did that for the smaller vests I made last year and measured them from the nape of the neck to where I wanted the vest to fall on their waistline and just knit to that length minus 6 rows to allow for the ribbing and the cast-off. Or even just hold it up to the baby to estimate the length you need. I made one for my now enormous 3 yo 2 winters ago - he was 18 months and I knit a 2 year size but didn't make it long enough. I needed to add about 10 rows but didn't bother to check it against him before binding off.

My guage is ALWAYS off unless I use Lion Woolease. The first vest I made was the 2nd size and yet small enough to fit a newborn b/c my guage was off so badly. It was quite the tiny thing, and also my very first in the round FO.

Measuring the baby....now that's a novel idea. I did not measure him. right now he's on my breast asleep in the maya wrap, too balled up to measure right now. I'm winging it!

And if I don't find the new black shoes I bought the girls a few weeks ago, i'm really screwed on these photos! I hate it when i do this!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing your vest! I am planning to make one soon (working on a sweater for my almost 5mo right now). The pattern I'm going to use is in the book Natural Knits for Babies and Moms by Louisa Harding and it's called the Oz Vest. I've done a couple of projects from this book so far and in a couple, there are armholes and you're supposed to measure from the start of the armhole (where you bound off (or cast off)). You're probably way past that now but I thought I'd mention it in case you aren't.

I'm down to the ribbing trim around the armholes and the neck. I did one side in a smaller needle and had concerns about whether it looked ok or not....so I did the other armhole in the same size as the body and like it fine....so I took the smaller side out and have to re-do it, then the neck then I am DONE! I expect to finish it today if the little ones let me.

Okay, finally finished mine today! here's a link. I used paton's classic merino, and it made a cool striping pattern on the main body, then got to traditional variegated look at the top. I made the 2T size but it turned out a little small...next time I guess I'd try to compare measurements. DS doesn't wear ANY 2T yet so I figured it'd be fine...guess not! Oh well, it'll work for the pictures and then a little after that. We live in FL so it's not necessary to stay warm really. I tried it on him (he's 15 mos.) and he loved it, rubbing and patting his tummy with a big grin!
