Baby boy knit vest pattern - Page 2

I LOVE how the swirl happened!

I'm just doing a couple of these vests also, I was looking for a nice trim pattern that could be a warm layer without too much bulk and this is it I think.

I made a few adaptations to the pattern -- I grafted the shoulders together instead of binding off and then sewing. I did about 4 rows extra on the front so the shoulder 'seam' would actually sit a little low towards the back -- this is because on the first one I did I found the back rode up a bit at the neck. I just made the front longer, rather than binding off at the neck and extending the back shoulders, meaning I would have extra yarn ends to weave in, which I do not enjoy.

I also found crocheting around the neck and armholes much faster and easier than knitting 2x2 ribbing -- and no guessing how many stitches to pick up and knit in multiples of 4.

A great, basic, simple pattern though, exactly what I was looking for! And now, knowing how awesome that swirl comes out, I just may start another one in some Patons Merino I have hanging about...

I finished mine and couldn't get it over his head. The nech hole is way too small even though I followed the directions and bound off in pattern very loosely in a needle size 2 up from what i had been knitting with.

I think I will pull out 2 rows and see if that will go over his head. If not, I'll pull it all out and do a simple crochet edge. I just need this for a darn picture!!!

Puppyfluffer, sorry that happened for your little one, that's frustrating! I ended up only making 4 rows around the neck and bound off very loosely because ds has a huge head (same as my 4.5yo dd). Maybe that's the only place the 2T size helped me out, it did manage to fit! Hope it works out better when you try again...

oh, that's a gorgeous vest! PF, did you get the neckhole fixed?

I'm having LTK vest withdrawals now - I might have to cast one on just to have it there otn for when I have "free time".

Sorry to be so late getting back to update. The pukey bug made the rounds at our house.

I finally finished. I ended up pulling out all the neck ribbing and doing a single crochet stitch around the neck edge. The 2x2 ribbing for tha arm holes was fine.

I just got the yarn ends worked in and need to block it. It needs a little shaping.

i never found shoes the shoes for the girls and ended up buying them another pair. At least this time they were buy one get 2nd 50% off. I got a different style so if I do find the others, I might keep them or might return them.

Now, to have everyone healthy enough to go get pics done in time to have them back for Christmas cards....

If I make this pattern again, I think I will bind off and split the front for the V neck sooner. If you look at the finished garment on the website, the head opening starts above the line of the armpits. I think that is too small for a baby. I'd like more room. So, that's my idea for the next time.
