http://hyenacart.com/MosaicMoon/ has a great diaper pattern formerly the Pin Head Diaper which was a successful diaper in the wahm market for a very long time. Morweena bought the pattern from Caryn.
When I made them, I took actual diapers and measured. I was able to go to fabric stores and walmart and get remnants like fleece and flannel and cut diapers out of them. You can also get microfiber cloths which are pretty absorbent in almost any auto section of stores (or auto parts place, but, more expensive). However, I was never able to find the FOE or touch tape anywhere IRL. If you sew the elastic inside the diaper, you don't need the FOE but I would always do another stitch once I folded it how it was supposed to go so I had a gusset. I did the same on the backside. You can find hand held snap presses for less than $10 at walmart (at the time it was my main shopping place). BUT I didn't think the snaps were all that impressive. Hope that helps! I'm new to diaper making but I've found I love, love, love the selection of fabrics and such at Kids in the Garden. I've been using the Very Baby All In One pattern, but using their additional tutorials they offer online and making pocket diapers instead of AIO's.
My advice is don't get overwhelmed with all the seemingly endless options at first. Just stick with it, it is a lot easier than it seems!
On the zanyzebra website, they have some free diaper patterns. I also like kids in the garden. Wazoodle has a large selection of products, too, and they do have fold over elastic (FOE - if you're making covers).
