: I'm a very modest woman - I don't like wearing bikinis or even shorts, and everything I own is very non-revealing. I started out laboring fully clothed (out of the water), but soon it felt like there was a vise around my stomach during contractions if I was wearing *anything* below the waist. I did keep a sports bra on until after my baby was born, but afterwards I had no problem taking it off to try nursing her. Of course, only DH and the midwife were there - I may have felt differently had there been more people around.

i dont like being naked. i didnt when i gave birth to dd, and i dont plan on it with this one (though you never know). i am going to wear a tank top with a nursing bra underneath. my breasts are very big and heavy, and having them flop around is annoying to me. i dont so much care about my "womanhood" (lol) or naked bum or legs showing. do what makes you comfortable!

I'm fairly modest, and I totally, completely could not have cared less. I agree, its like something in your brain/body chemistry just turns off that inhibition. I had two nurses, a midwife, a medical student, and an OB resident, NONE of whom I'd ever met before (oh the joys of delivering in a huge medical center), and it absolutely meant nothing to me to be naked, have internal exams, or to be stitched up. And I still don't care - considering all the births they've seen, I highly doubt they remembered me for more than ten minutes after I left.

See why I'm having a homebirth? I have no worries now at all about it, considering that I wll actually have a relationship with an actual lmidwife who will actually be attending my birth and seeing me with no clothes

this week, my oldest DD (9) asked why I wanted a new robe (new/old from thrift shop) - I said so I could wear it during labor, and I wouldn't care if it got messy/bloody. Then she asked something about, won't I be wearing panties? I said nope. bra? nope. She was very very distressed at this point. She's been watching House of Babies, and they all wear "something", but I assured her that it was ok that I would be naked. I reminded her that I was naked when her little sister was born - she didn't remember. I also reminded her that I'd be in & out of the bathtub, so I would just "stay" naked ... and besides, how can I have a baby if I'm wearing panties???? oh - and she knows I'll sit on a birth ball, and that was especially confusing to her (I didn't tell her that I'd probably accidentally pee or poop while doing all of this ......... no need to shock her further!) - I said I'd sit on a towel, if I was on the birth ball.

and this is from a kid who thinks "the old-fashioned way" to have a baby is c-section! I don't know where she got that idea, but she honestly thought that.

kids are so silly.

I basically labored alone for my last birth, and wore a tank top and pajama pants when I wasn't in the shower. I stripped my pants off a few seconds before delivery, and changed into a clean sports bra for a bath with my babe within the hour.

I find I'm more comfortable with at least a loose top on.
