I am wondering if it matters what wk you get the glucose test done. in terms of how far along u are. I was suppose to get it done on tuesday the 18th but hubby was stuck in traffic. so i called and they said i could come in anytime. so i called yesterday and they proceed to tell me that my lab slip was pulled and i needed to call my practioner. so i go on the 2nd for a reg visit with midwife and am thinking just get it done after that appt that day. does it matter that i will be further along then i was on the 18th?

I think it's typically done between the 24th and 28th weeks (but that might vary from practice to practice).

I wouldn't worry about it too much honestly, unless you are concerned you're likely at risk.

I was wondering the same thing! I was supposed to go in last week at 28 weeks but now there is no way i could go in untill 30 weeks!

I don't think it's as vital in terms of catching it at a certain stage, as like the nuchal fold test or something (which becomes less accurate past a certain time). I think it's just a recommendation. I know some people have it done earlier if they are more at risk, etc.

I'd just get it whenever you can. If your midwife/OB is fine with the timing, then I wouldn't worry about it.

I was told they like to do it between 24-28 weeks. I had mine done at 30 weeks. No problem. I would think the only problem doing it late is if you test positive, which means a few extra weeks with your blood sugar unmonitored and uncontrolled.

Insulin resistance in pregnancy begins to peak at 28wks. If you can't test by then, it's not really a big deal. I mean no sense worrying over something you can't change or control. GL!

Where have you been?! How are you?

My office does an early glucose test at 16 weeks if you are high risk for GD. Otherwise they do it around the 28 week mark give or take a week. I was told that around 28 weeks the placenta releases hormones that interfers with insulin.

My midwife left it up to me if I wanted it or not and since this is my third pg and never had issues, don't seem at risk for issues I haven't done one yet and might not at all...

Agree that the 24-28 weeks is standard. If it's on the earlier side, then there's a higher chance that they're not going to catch it unless they retest it. (I got my first three hour at a mere 14 weeks this time!) If it's later, then the only issue is that it could go uncontrolled longer. I'll get my second three hour test at almost 28 weeks.

*I have insulin resistance when not pg, which is why I get mine tested twice. Even with insulin resistance, my second test is still in the normal range for women without it.
