can you really get vaxed at safeway?

my safeway apparently offers the flu vax, adult vax, and travel vax... how did i miss that? i told my mom and my friend and both already knew and did not think it was at all out of the ordinary. has it always been like that? i sort of feel like you shouldn't be able to drop by the market for a gallon of milk and a flu shot. but apparently most people think its a great idea. what do you guys think?

I've seen this type of thing at Costco as well.

There are a ton of 'flu clinics' near me...I've mostly seen it at supermarkets & CVS & other pharmacies.

They have flu clinics in alot of pharmacies in stores here, but I haven't seen them for travel or regular adult vaccines.

I think its so weird!
The random injection person at the grocery store knows nothing of someones medical history. What if there is a severe reaction right there at the grocery store clinic? Then what??

thats what i was thinking... plus i feel like Vaxes shouldn't be like tylenol yk? it makes it seem like they are the most harmless things in the world.

Pretty much every store with a pharmacy here offers flu shots and several offer others as well. They also set up occasionally at the mall and other locations as well.

I agree - I think it's a bit weird. IIRC, they have you sign a waiver that you're healthy & don't know of any contraindications. The person giving the shot is a nurse that works for whatever the sponsoring agency is & goes site to site (it's not like the cashier is doing the shots) and will know what to do in terms of reactions. A friend of mine is a nurse, and has worked these 'clinics' before (though refuses to get it for her or her kids).

i think it is interesting b/c it shows how harmless and necessary they really consider vax. the other thing is that i was talking to my doctor about it the other day and she was saying how expensive it is to offer vaccines and that a lot of practices in the area are no longer offering them b/c they are losing money. and then i find out you can get them at the grocery store.. how can both be true?

Yep, the Safeway down the street here had signs up all over...I wanted to have some anti-vax bumper stickers made up to stick on their signs, but I always forget until it is too late...

The ones here aren't done by random people. They are public health nurses, so while they may not know someone's medical history they are trained to give shots & medical attention. even with a medical history it doesn't mean they won't have a reaction for the first time. I'd guess that most people who have had a history are getting their shots(if they get them) at the dr's.
