Donavan Asher was born at home and in the water on 11/18/2008!
10 lbs, 3 oz
20.5 inches
11:29 P.M.
We had thought he was coming on 11/16 after some serious warm up labor, but he decided to hang on until Tuesday night so he wouldn't have to share his birthday with 2 other folks we know.
I started having more warm up labor Tuesday afternoon and went to a midwife appt to check on the little one. I was at 4 cm and 80% effaced. She jokingly said "I'll see you later tonight!" So DH and I went to Costco to walk around and contractions just kept on trucking. By the time we got home, I decided it was time to jump in the tub and it just got more fun.
The only drama was that our midwife had one other client and we were neck and neck... both past our EDD, both known to have quick active/late labor, both showing similar dilation... and we both went into labor that night. The other lady's water broke before mine and she lived an hour away from us. Our midwife was racing from our house to hers while a midwife friend stayed with us along with our midwifes's apprentice. One of the midwives that attended us at DD's birth came to our house as well. She is one of, if not, the most experienced midwife in the area... we were in great hands. Our regular midwife said this was the first time in 30 years that this happened.
Went from 5cm and "very stretchy" to involuntarily pushing to having Donavan in our hands in about an hour, pushing for less than 1/2 of that time. It was really a beautiful birth and so wonderful to have our baby in the comfort of home. (We transported with DD...so this was a thankful change). Have one tear
: that I've almost gotten healed. We did everything we could to prevent the tear, but it literally happened on the very last push.
We are all getting used to having a newborn in the house and DD is slowly adjusting...every day is getting better.
