What week can midwives deliver - Page 2

my midwife is a dedicated homebirther & is not comfortable doing it before 36 weeks. she said if someone absolutely refused to go in at 35 weeks she might compromise if the mum seemed onto it, but 36 is usually her minimum. i'm not sure what the legal restrictions are here in NZ, but it's a matter of just not being sure if the lungs are fully developed yet. most babies have their lungs formed by 34 weeks, but not all...& you just don't know which your baby is! so generally people feel confident that by 37 weeks the lungs are sorted.

36.

You are me with my last prg. I had contrx every 2-5 min. for almost four days, enough pain and often enough to not allow me ANY sleep during week 35-36 until finally they got strong enough to cause dilation...do not let this happen. It is terrible. Control it now and prevent further labor problems. Trust me. That type of exhaustion is unbearable and no good for you or baby. Let this one cook longer, until you know you are rested, fed, hydrated and baby is ready on its own.

REST. EAT. DRINK LOTS LOTS LOTS OF WATER. PLEASE.

I'm in Vermont and my midwife can attend at home legally at 36 weeks.
