schools in bozeman

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone in the Bozeman area might have some info on schools. Here's my situation and what I am looking for:
I am currently homeschooling and am considering putting my 7 yo into school for a variety of reasons. However, I disagree with the public school ideas about teaching, I am not Christian, we cannot afford Montessori schools and would not qualify for scholarships. So...I am feeling a little trapped that my only option is homeschooling, but that's not working for us, so: are there maybe any other schools in this area that do not fall into those 3 categories? Maybe some sort of alternative school that may not even be in the yellow pages? I know this is a stretch, but I thought it was worth a try!

Thanks for any info on this topic!

I know the Montessori (not Sourdough) in town gives scholarships. Honestly I think the schools have been amazing here...and I am vy radical in my ideology etc...especially hawthorne which stresses an arts curriculum. Before you reject them wholesale, try talking to some of the teachers, admin etc. But if you just can't work with them, trying a scholarship at a Montessori would be another option, I have heard it's a good school. I forgot the name, but since Boze is a small town I am sure you will find it! Good luck, I agonized over this and am thankful it has worked out so far.
Another idea would be maybe a coop with other hs ers? I've heard of that also.

Sourdough Montessori

hello! i don't know about the scholarship possiblities, but do try Sourdough Mon. it's great, we too have trouble with the trad. system and this was a great fit. now dd is in longfellow and we are pretty happy with it, still struggle with some of the typical pub school stuff, but the teachers, et. all are really tops. bozeman schools are quite good. good luck!

aren't the schools now switching to where you live vs. where you want to go? you can't chose where you want, can you? unless you move to that district?

Yes, they have changed to district. I tried to get ds into monforton cause I heard it's pretty alternative for a ps, but was told that we are not in thier district and that the system makes no exceptions.

I'm planning on continuing to homeschool though at this point. I've met new people and kind of have a renewed faith in the whole hs'ing thing! Thanks for all the info, it's good to know that if we do ever go the ps route it seems that we are in the right place.

i have found out more info. there is a school off of cottonwood called cottonwood public montessori. it is a public school with 14 students currently. they follow a montessori theory but meet all the public school guidelines. the out of district tuition is $900, the same as all out of district tuitions. i am very surprised montforton did not offer this option to you nick&jonmom. maybe because it's a county school? montforton is the school we will start in the fall. i am pleased with that choice, but we really were checking into the cottonwood school. it seems like a great program and they are accepting out of district and they have an open enrollment for kindegarten this week. if anyone wants more info i can get it for them. we went to an openhouse and it does seems wonderful. i just didn't think i could commit to taking all of my children (3) to and from school everyday for the the next 12+ years (my youngest is 6 mos old).

Ok, so are they listed, or how do I contact them? Is the tution of $900 per month/year/semester? Are you in monforton because you are in their distrcit or did they make an exception? The woman I spoke to there was very matter of fact and not helpful at all when asked are there any exceptions, she bluntly said no never and that was that. I'd love more info! Thanks!

we are in the montforton district. i just called montforton and they are having a board meeting next tuesday to discuss if they are going to allow out of district people and if they are even going to charge an out of district tuition! so call gale after next tuesday and they will have more info. but yes, in the past she said that this wasn't even an option. so that might be good news for you!

it is $900 per year. this is an out of district tuition that was offered at the cottonwood school.

Thanks! I've contacted Cottonwood and am anxious to learn more about their program. Thanks for posting or I may never have called them assuming they were just another public school.
