First Appointments?? - Page 2

I always try to wait as long as possible. With my fifth I waited until week 14. Mostly because I hated my doctor's office and how long they would make me wait. I changed over to a birthing center and midwife and then I looked forward to each appointment. This time it will probably be around 12 weeks.

I was already seeing a fertility specialist, and I'll continue to do some blood work and a couple early vaginal ultrasounds probably.

In the mean time I have interviews scheduled with 2 homebirth midwives next week. I'm not sure when I'll do my first real appointment with a midwife. I imagine that will depend on when my fertility specialist dismisses me to regular care (I'll probably aim for ASAP with that, but not before we have a heartbeat), as well as how long it takes me to find the right midwife, what that midwife's standard protocol is, and what I can get my insurance to cover.

I'm going to my first appt. next week for an early u/s (because of my history of miscarriages). I'll be 5w, 5d then.

I'll be calling on Monday and trying to get in as soon as possible. I am going to want my progesterone levels checked right away, because of my previous miscarriage. I also want to get the results from my Thyroid scan.

I will most likely decline the tests for Downs, etc... Nothing they find will cause me to terminate, so, I'd rather skip the tests.

I have an appointment with my GP on wed 10th (4 wks)
I am 13dpo now, I am going to an info session at the midwives 7 Jan...they aid all new patients need to attend b4 1st appt....I really wish I could get in before Cristmas holidays were over so dh could come..

I've got no clue when my first appointment is going to be. We're in the middle of moving to Florida right now so probably not until we are settled in our new house. I'm really hoping Florida is a midwife-friendly state as we'd like to start interviewing a few when we get there...

coconutcronicles what would you ask in an interview? I only have a choice of 2 midwife offices, what should I ask to help me decide?

I found lists of interview questions HERE and HERE that I think are pretty comprehensive and helped me come up with my own list of questions. We won't be asking all of them of course but there were a few that I hadn't even thought of myself.

Thanks for posting those links - I have my first midwife interview on Tuesday and hadn't even started putting together questions. From looking at those links, I guess there is A LOT that I could ask, though I probably won't do every single one.

I think I'm trying to hold out --

I'm part because I'm still trying to decide if I can afford a home birth (which is prohibited and not covered by insurance in NC ) or if I need to return to our lovely but overly institutional free-standing birth center.

I think I'm also emotionally holding out because of past mc. Maybe I'll give in once I pass that psychological barrier date (for me is 7 wks).

Who knows? Maybe I'll make the appts just to feel like I'm being optimistic. Or maybe I'll get desperate and demand an early u/s.

I'm feeling very unpredictable!

My appt is exactly 8 weeks. It is at a birthing center and I want to get to know my mw better, or I would wait longer I suppose.

yeah, we're pretty hands off. I took an hpt, it said pg. I feel like puking so I know my hormones are doing their thing. I've been fortunate to have 2 normal and healthy pregnancies so I'm not very worried.

I just finally called today (I'm SO lazy, I've been putting it off for a week now!!), and my first appointment is december 30th

I am holding off. We will be moving to another state and it could be within just a few weeks. If the move happens sooner than later I will wait until we get settled in our new place.

I really want to find a homebirth midwife, but not sure how homebirth friendly or midwife friendly OH is. I also am not sure how insurance works with a homebirth.

Hey Heather... we're in the same boat as you. We'll be moving from Ohio to Florida in about a week. I really hope your move goes well and without any hitches! Moving can be so stressful...

I ended up rescheduling because I'm sick. So my first interview is now Dec. 18th, unless another MW gets back to me sooner.
