I need to learn how to butcher a deer!
My DH is finally
going hunting on monday.
: We've been in AK since last year, he got a rifle last winter, but although he knows how to shoot, he's never actually been hunting...he could kill the deer but doesn't know the right way to gut it and so on. So he's been talking to guys in town all this year trying to find someone who will take him, and everybody keeps saying oh yeah, I'll take you when I go, but no one has... Finally, one week before the end of the season, someone has offered to take him! I'm really excited at the prospect of getting our own meat, but when he drags home a dead deer, I have no idea what to do next! Can anybody point me to a good website with butchering info, or tell me (via PM if you prefer) any helpful tips I should remember? I mean, I can hack it into pieces, but I don't know anything about making good cuts, tender cuts, parts I should avoid (or save to grind), etc.
