Is it normal to have your HCG levels tested, or is it only usually done early on if you've had problems/miscarriages in the past or there are other concerns?
Is it a standard test they'll do when I go in for my first doctor's appointment?

I don't know if it's standard or not. A homebirth midwife certainly wouldn't routinely do it....of course some mainstream doctors will sign you up for a 6 week ultrasound just to confirm pregnancy, so I don't know.

I think its typical for those with losses or maybe having fertility treatments.

I had a blood test done last week since I've had two losses & a chemical pregnancy, however, he didn't order a re count & never gave me the actual number. He just said my number was perfect & that I shouldn't worry.

Usually they just do a urine test just to verify that you're pregnant.

I'm not in your DDC, but my hb mw was a cnm and ordered a quantitative beta for me at my first appointment at 21 DPO as a confirmation of pregnancy. I think it really just depends on the provider. Some do a urine test, some do a qualitative blood test, some do a quantitative blood test, and some just take your word for it. It was my first pgcy and I hadn't had any problems yet (it did end in m/c and my level was over the mean posted in the OP).

not to freak you out, but remember that sometimes they miss a twin on an ultrasound because one will hide behind the other. What a blessing either way, right?!:

FYI--my doc did do an hcg count on me yesterday (I didn't think she did) and my number was 1421 which was either 19 dpo(most likely) or 21dpo and they'll do another draw tomorrow.::

At 16 dpo my beta was 218, and I'm anxiously awaiting a phone call back from my doc's office to hear the results of my 18 dpo beta.

What I can't figure out is that according to my numbers, if they doubled every day then when I took my 1st test on dpo11 and got a faint faint line (could barely see it) I would have had a hcg of around 88--that is way above the 25hcg required to get a line. Which means my number is more than doubling every 2 days. Does that mean anything?

Yes...I am of the obsessed here's a chart I found for normal twin pregnancies--scroll down to the bottom of the page. Of course according to this we are in twin range, but I doubt I'll find two in there.

Sarah...happy hunting!

Doubling time is 33 hours, so I'm happy

yet another chart

Here's what the MD who did my hcg levels sent me with my results. The ranges on her chart are huge!

The 1st day of my last period was Nov. 1 and I have no idea when we conceived. Anyway, I only had one test, so I don't have much to go on, but at 18 dpo (so, Dec 3) I was at 7258.

Normal Pregnancy
1st Week 10-30 mIU/mL
2nd Week 30-100 mIU/mL
3rd Week 100-1000 mIU/mL
4th Week 1000-10,000 mIU/mL
2nd & 3rd Month 30,000-100,000 mIU/mL
2nd trimester 10,000-30,000 mIU/mL
3rd trimester 5000-15,000 mIu/mL
