Pertussis vax and seizures- need some info for my friend!

Thread Starter
Hi- So long story short my best friend of over 20 years is married to a doctor and is very pro vax. I know that her girls are fully vaxed but I am very worried for her youngest daughter. She is 18 months old and over a year ago- around 4 months she had her first seizure. Then again at 6 months. She went on antiseizure meds and had not had any seizures since. They just today she had another one- and it was worse than the others- i think b/c of her age. She fell out of a chair and landed on her head b/c she couldn't brace her fall.
I am so sad for her and for my friend who just has no idea what could be causing this and to me it seems obvious b/c it's always with a week or 2 of getting a round of vaxes.
I know that the pertussis vax among others can cause seizures but does anyone have any solid info about this? Or about seizures from any vaxes?
I think she would be very open to info at the moment but I would definitely not want to share anything that just seemed "flaky" to her. I want to sound as knowledgable as possible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just did a quick VAERS search for DTaP with seizure as a search term and here are the results:

The New England Journal Of Medicine

Quote:
Conclusions: There are significantly elevated risks of febrile seizures after receipt of DTP vaccine or MMR vaccine, but these risks do not appear to be associated with any long-term, adverse consequences.

Pediatrics

Quote:
Conclusion: Preliminary design, data collection, and analytic capability of the Vaccine Safety Datalink project has been validated by replication of previous known associations between seizures and DTP and MMR vaccines. The diversity in vaccine administration schedules permits potential disentangling of effects of simultaneous and combined vaccinations. The project provides a model of public health-managed care collaborations in addition to an excellent infrastructure for safety and other studies of vaccines.

Neurological complications from vaccines are well documented in the literature (not just seizures either and not just from the DTaP) If she is fully vaxed it would be hard to tell which vax may be the problem.

I found this article about adverse reactions from the DTaP including seizures

"Severe reactions associated with DTaP vaccine: detailed study of children with seizures, hypotonic-hypo-responsive episodes, high fevers and persistant crying" Pediatrics 1993 Jun; 91(6): 1158-1165.

maybe do a pubmed search as well

Its written on the paper they send you home with... What reactions to look for. I believe it written on the CDC website, as well as VAERS reports. Plus the label inserts. I would get a hold of the actual pamphlets, copy the wording straight from the CDC highlight it, and present it to her. I would imagine they will look at the warnings straight from the label, CDC, and doctors pamphlets. Let us know how it goes. Label them, underline the word seizures so she doesn't have to find them, and there is no way not to get around to reading. My son had seizures, I read the paper they sent me home with, Warnings, and reactions to look for. He now has a med. Exemption.

Beware of (Dtap) vaccinations!

(Posted elsewhere too) Within 24 hours of his Dtap my nephew had multiple seizures and then turned blue and floppy with purple lips and lost consciousness. After hospitalization he continued to have seizures and had to undergo spinal taps, MRIs and EEGs. He is now on phenobarbitol -anti-seizure medication that he must take for at least the next six months, he has multiple doctor appointments, and his mom has to cart around an oxygen tank on wheels in case he has another episode.

Seizure disorder is most often directly related to Vaccines

Of course you will get another story altogether from an allopathic ped. Big Pharma is a powerfull organization, with billions of dollars pushing politicians, lobbyists and the media into saying "Vaccines are save"...........
The corruption behind the vaccine issue runs deep within the political system.

My baby had a seizure just 10 hours after her second dose of DTap. She was unresponsive for one hour after the seizure.

ANDY

Dear Thinktwice,
My son, Andy, was born June 16. He was healthy and full term. He had his first shot on August 18. He started screaming right away and continued to cry. He screamed and cried for the next few days, except when he fell into a deep sleep. Also, when he was awake, he now had a glassy, odd look in his eyes, as though he was looking right past us. He just wasn't right.

I took him to the Emergency Room where I was told he was having 'a bad day.' I asked if the shot had anything to do with his behavior. I was told 'no.' I brought him home and knew something was wrong. I know now he suffered from encephalopathy and convulsions.

I did not know that Andy had a reaction to his first shot. After his second shot he screamed, and when we got home he went to sleep. I checked him and he was stiff as a board with glaring eyes. He had no expression on his face and I got no response. However, when I picked him up, his head was floppy. I held him for 30 or 40 minutes. Then, as if nothing happened, he sat up. After this episode I noticed a lot of jerking movements. I now know these were seizures.

About a week later I was holding Andy on my lap and his legs went out, and his tongue hung out; he had his first grand mal seizure. I took him to the doctor's office the next day, but before I got him ready to go he had several more grand mal seizures. The doctor told me it seemed like epilepsy to him and ordered EEGs and blood work. The next day, back home in his high chair, we thought he was choking on baby food. He was having another grand mal and we rushed him to the doctor. They took Andy to Buffalo Children's Hospital by ambulance. That is where we were confronted with what was wrong. The doctor asked when he had the shot. I told her and she said don't get another.

From that day on our lives were changed dramatically. We went from hospital to hospital hoping we could find something to help our son. He has been on every medication available and some that are experimental, all to no avail. When Andy was six months old we noticed an uncommon type of reaction. He would look at our kitchen floor and have a seizure. He could not look at screens or anything with a weave, including grass, cement, jeans, and sweaters, to name a few. As he got older I tried dark glasses on him; it seemed to help this type of seizure to some degree.

The medications and diets he has been on in his last eight years have been to no avail. A few years ago, he had brain surgery that helped with the patterned seizures. He continues to have grand........................................
