My baby's 2 month baby weight...

Hey ladies! I'm so sorry I haven't been posting. I've been trying to stay caught up with the postings but with school, the baby, traveling, and looking for a job...things have been so Crazy!

I have a question. Maybe you guys can help me. My baby was born at 37 weeks and weighed 6lb 11oz. He was 20 inches. I was told during my pregnancy that he would be very long. Well, at his one month check he weighed 10lbs, 24 inches. I had switched to formula as well. NOW...He's almost growing out of the size 1 diapers. He's gotta be around 13-14 lbs, and i KNOW his length has grown a lot. He goes to the pediatrician in a few days.

They'll probably tell me I'm feeding him too much but I don't know what to do. He drinks about 4ounces at a time because he's always SO hungry. Even though the doctor says to only feed him every 4 hours, he only makes it about 3 1/2 (except for overnight when he's fed less).

Is my baby too big?

I don't think so, but I'm no expert. Nora's gotta be about 12 lbs by now, she was 7 lbs at birth. The size 1 diapers are fitting her, but I think if we buy another pack that'll be it and she'll be into 2's (like, I won't buy the huge pack of 1's b/c I think she'll outgrow them).

See what the ped says, but I'm sure your baby is just the cutest little chub of a boy and is perfectly healthy.

Well, my baby is younger and probably weighs more.

Calla weighed 8 lb 7 oz at birth (20.5 inches long) and was 13.5 pounds last week. She was six weeks then. She's already in size 2 diapers, too. My doctor only says "what a meatball" and that the weight gain is great. However, she is only fed breast milk, so the doctor might feel differently if I were feeding her formula? I don't know much about formula at all, like whether or not it's okay to feed on demand with formula...

One thing the doctor mentioned was that my baby might be very oral, since she eats so often, and that if I wanted to give her a pacifier, that she thinks it would be fine. She didn't tell me to give her a paci, however. I have a pacifier, but can't decide if I want to introduce it or not. You may want to think about that and discuss it with the ped.

F was 11 lb 11 oz at her 2 month but I've got her in twos already, they just seem to fit better.

I'm curious why your doc has him on a schedule. DS was formula fed, and we still fed him on demand.

DD was 8lbs even and 21 inches long at birth. At one month she was 10lbs 3oz and 22 inches and at 6 weeks she was 11 lbs 8 oz. So I know she is over 12 lbs already at 8 weeks. She is EBF. She's already grown out of most of her size small CD because he thighs are just so chunky It doesn't sound like your LO is too big to me.

My EBF baby was 7,9 at birth and lost down to 6, 10 in the hospital. She was 11,4 at her 2 month appt and had grown 3" in length. She's put on 4 1/2 lbs over her lowest weight in 2 months. My doc was happy about the weightgain.

Calli was 6,9 & 19 in. when she was born and 6,4 when we left the hospital. A week ago at the peds she was a little over 1 month old and weighed in at 8,9. She is BF and FF. She gained 2,5 in a little over a month.

Galen was 8lbs3oz at birth and at 3wks5dys he was 10lbs12oz. If he makes the same weight gain or more this month that will be at least over 13lbs at his 2 month check. From the way my other LO's grew I think 13-14lbs at 2 months sounds pretty normal. They were all EBF - but I'm pretty sure I've heard that formula feeding on demand is ok too, at least at first.

In fact, my big kids now (at 7, 5, 3) eat enormous amounts of food. I'm talking it boggles my mind to see the amount they shovel down. It's all very healthy home-made food, though we do eat a TF diet so it's pretty high in traditional fats - and they are all great sizes and not one of them close to overweight. So, I kind of believe in demand feeding at every age so long as it's healthy food, and I make sure they are eating at a reasonable speed (not so fast they can't recognise their bodies' hunger cues).

24"! That's a big growth. Of course he should be gaining weight quickly. Carolyn was about your baby's size at birth, 20.5" and 6 lbs 9 oz. But she was 10lbs and 23" at her two month check-up. I can't imagine your boy growing to 24" in one month and the doctor thinking you're feeding him too much! I wouldn't worry!

Mine was 13 lb 3 oz and 22 1/2 " at his 5 week appt and he's exclusively breastfed. So I wouldn't worry if it was me.

I think it sounds like he's gaining just fine. Your DS sounds like my first born - hungry all the time and grows like a weed. Of course, now I'm wondering if my DD is gaining enough! At six weeks she'd only gained two pounds (I'll weigh her tomorrow for her 7 weeks). She's still in NB sized clothes, the 0-3 month outfits are huge on her. Since DS was such a chunky monkey, this is completely out of my realm of experience.

The whole idea that an infant can be seen as growing too fast is strange to me. They eat what they need to accomodate their bodies growth... no? I left my pediatrician b/c he told me I was overfeeding my son (among other stupid comments). He went from 6.4lb at discharge to 8.0lb at 2 weeks. He is now 7 weeks and about 11lbs. I feed on demand, about every 3 hours with some snacks in between. I was proud of his weight gain, but the ped said 2 oz per day in the first 2 weeks was "too much" and I should make him wait longer between feedings! I asked if this meant I was setting him up for obesity (no) and why it was too much (no real answer.)

Maybe formula is different, but my feeling is, if the baby is hungry - feed him!

Sounds like you are doing a great job mama - trust your gut. I hate that you are afraid of what your pediatrician might say or think. If he ped says something you know in your heart isn't true for your babe, move along...

This is Elina as well. She's just a peanut. She was 6, 12 and 19 in at birth and 6, 6 at her lowest weight. She's about 9 lbs now and 20 1/2 in. She's not skinny though - she's got nice chunky cheeks and she's growing some chubby thighs. She's just little. I'm only 5'1, so I figure she's just taking after her mama. I was EBF as an infant as well and was in the same weight range as she is. She's not a fussy baby, pees and poops plenty, is very alert, and acts completely satisfied when she's done nursing, so I let go of my worries that she was eating enough. Sometimes hearing about how much everyone's LOs are growing makes me wonder, but ds didn't sprout until 4 months either - he went from 10 lbs to 14 lbs in a month, and he was on bm and formula after the first week.

sounds good to me...especially if he is getting that long...Keir was 8lbs9oz at birth and 22 inches long and is now 12lbs 2oz and 23.5 inches at 6 weeks.

I have never heard that you can feed a baby "too much". I thought all that fat helped brain developement. I am also wondering why your Dr. has you on a feeding schedule. Even though formula fed, why not feeding on demand?

Eleanor is 7 weeks and 4 days today, and we just had our final appointment with our midwife. She was 7lbs 10oz at birth, 9lbs 3oz at her 3-week appointment, and 11lbs 2oz today! She's also 24 inches long now (21 inches at birth). I guess there's no doubt at all she's getting plenty of milk! :

Well here I am just the opposite. My first peanut was born @ 37 weeks at 6lbs 6 oz. he was so teeny.

And now, this Jelly Roll was born @ 37 weeks at 7lbs even, and he gained 2lbs in 2 weeks. At 6 weeks, he weighs 12lbs. . He constantly hungry. He's a stomach with no bottom. I don't even know how to dress him. He's in size 2 diapers already. I'm at a loss for words.

Thierry didn't start gaining weight until he left the hospital, October 20th. SO on Oct 20 he weighed the same as when he was born, 7lbs 12 oz. When I weighed him the other day, he was almost 12 lbs! I am very VERY happy especially since he is EBF, which so many ppl said would be rediculously hard to get the hang of So I think your babe's weight gain is perfect

E's ebf and i bet he's over 12.5lbs at 6w. he was born at 41w at 7lbs even. so he's gained over 5lbs in as many weeks. your babe sounds like he's growing just fine.
