1st doc visit...good/bad news

Hi--I just went to the doctor for an "official" pregnancy test and it was positive:::

However, I have a history of blighted ovums (molar pregnancy) and she said that once you have 2 molars, you have something of a 25% chance of another one so instead of getting me an hcg count (which I think is pretty effective) she's just going to schedule me an ultrasound for when I'm about 6.5-7 weeks. That means I now have to sit on pins and needles for the next 2-3 weeks...not to mention I'll be getting the u/s right before Christmas so it will either make or break my holiday.

so I'm happy and excited and worried and sad and everything else. Anyone else ever have the blighten ovum/molar pregnancy?

That would drive me crazy having to just wait! I hope you get good news! Are hcg levels lower with a molar pregnancies?

Wow..here's a turn of events. I just called my midwife and she said that molar pregnancy and blighted ovum are two separate issues and that my problems were blighted ovums...which is more common, less serious...not sure of recurrant rate though. My family doctor thought they were the same thing. My midwife does want me to have the hcg tests done so after their lunch break I can call them back to have that scheduled...yay! She said that as long as the levels are improving and in good range I should be fine!...I'd keep you posted!

Sarah

pp: not sure about molar pregnancy (which is supposed to be more rare) but with one of my previous blighted ovums I went from 29 hcg to like 54 over 2 days and it was after AF was due, so not good numbers at all.

Hi Sarah,
I had a blighted ovum in September 2006. Oh, it was such a bummer, but really was better than "losing a baby."
I'll go to the Dr. on the 22nd, I should be about 6 weeks then.
I'm happy and worried, too, and totally understand how you feel!

Hugs,
Amanda

I found out December 17th 2001 that I was pregnant. My due date was 8/20/02

I found out in February that it was a "blighted ovum" (though originally he said it had just stopped developing at around 6 weeks past conception), and miscarried a week later.

I'm terrified now that if I AM pregnant... there might be some bad stuff to do with the coincidence that the new due date is the same as that one only 7 years later.

(btw that was the only "blighted ovum" I have had that I am aware of.)

and yes, blighted and molar are different. molar has a bad risk of doing some damage, so in the end if you're gonna have either its better its blighted.

If your baby developed that far, I don't think it was a blighted ovum...my understanding is that it fertilizes, but does not develop. At 6 weeks there would be development and it would be an early miscarriage. Some people can miscarry and not know if for quite a while.

My first blighted ovum wasn't found until I started spotting at 13 weeks. There was literally nothing in the sack. My second one was found at 6 weeks, but I decided to let it go naturally and miscarried at 9 weeks.

I had a blighted ovum my first pregnancy while in college. I think we found out it was blighted around 6-8 weeks. I chose to wait for a miscarriage rather than going in for a d&c... and then it tok like 3-4 WEEKS for me to miscarry (I had actually sheduled a d&c at that point, and miscarried like, 2 or 3 days before. Most painful thing EVER. And ruined a pair of jean). s:

my last pg (8/07) was a blighted ovum. At my 12w u/s all I had was a sac measuring 8w. At the time my hcg was over 5000 but my progesterone was 5.

I now have a hcg of 2029 and a prog of 10.6 so I'm very worried that the same thing is going to happen again. Hopefully the prog supplements will help
