can you help me adjust my gauge?

so I am knitting a baby hat that the gauge on the pattern was 3 1/2 stitches per inch. I am knitting it at 5 1/2 stitches per inch.

Instead of casting on 49 stitches I cast on 80.

the pattern now calls to knit for 4 1/4" then to start decreases.
this is now where I am confused on what to do.

it says to k6 k2tog and repeat to end of row
then to knit a row
then to decrease again k5 k2tog repeat
the decreases cont. until you knit one then two together then to break yarn and thread tail through to close top of the hat.

I am afraid I am going to have a cone head type of cap instead of a more fitted cap b/c of my increase in the amount of stitches.

any advice on how to change this so the cap is more fitted? or will it just work out w/ 22 stitches left to close the hole w/? if I were using the thicker yarn w/ bigger needles I would end up w/ 14 stitches at the end.

I am obviously confused

No, that'll be fine. Your row gauge will have changed alongside your stitch gauge so it'll all work out nicely.

If your gauge is that far off, you may end up getting a very different fitting/looking final result, even with careful math. For example, make sure the tightly knit hat you're making isn't too stiff. Also, you may consider starting over with different size needles to get closer to the recommended gauge.

no sparkly, I wanted to knit it w/ that specific yarn, not the aran weight it called for.
