DS has CP; I love our school!

DS woke up with CP spots yesterday and coincidentally there was a notice on our school's website about chickenpox, since there have been outbreaks at several other schools. It mentioned that parents have a choice about vaccinating, what exemptions are available, what the vax requirements are, that the health district might have to step in and raise immunization standards, etc. It is an alternative school that has a public Montessori program and a Parent Partnership program for homeschoolers. I could not be happier with them right now!

I had a nice chat with the teacher yesterday and we reminisced about the old days when we all had CP. She was very laid back about it and said she would send out an email to give a heads up to the other parents. I called the office today to tell them he has CP and ask about what kind of proof they required to avoid exclusions during future outbreaks. She was super easy going, said she would put it in his file and I could send a letter if I wanted. She said I might want to take pictures. Then we talked about her son's experience with CP.

Love them!

Just had to share.

That is awesome!

There has been CP going around here and no one seems too concerned, more just shocked since it is all the vax'd kids that are breaking out in spots.

I've exposed my kids last week, so we'll see what happens in the next week or so!

That school sounds wonderful btw!

More cp in the vaccinated? Maybe because the vaccinated kids share the cp virus for a week or so. Nice of them!

Most Montessori schools are great also about childhood diseases. My grandson just got signed up and they said he needed a slip of paper from some doc saying that he is healthy and either his shot records or they will provide you with an exemption. Very matter of factly. No funny, fear business.

No, sorry. I'm in the very awesome Pacific Northwest. I think our state has one of the lowest rates of vax coverage. We're an enlightened population!

Yes, ds was at a private Montessori preschool last year and I was freaked out about handing in my exemption, because I knew they didn't have to accept it. The director glanced at it and explained that they might have to ask ds to stay home in the event of an outbreak. Then he winked and said not to worry, they'd never asked anyone to stay home in the 30 year history of the school.
